The nascent RNA labelling compound 5-ethynyl uridine (EU) integrates into DNA in some animals - BMC Molecular and Cell Biology BMC Molecular and Cell Biology - The detection of de novo synthesized mRNA transcripts is crucial for understanding the regulation of eukaryotic transcription. Using nucleoside or nucleotide...

A huge thanks to our amazing collaborators from @msarscentre.bsky.social, @unibergen.bsky.social and @univie.ac.at who helped investigate how commonly EU ends up in the wrong macro-molecule. 👏

So excited to see @malinkjosavik.bsky.social beautiful work out @bmc.springernature.com 🤩! Check it out to see where the RNA-label ✨EU✨ shows up in our favourite sea anemone and how to catch your organism crafting DNA from RNA labelling tools 🧬👀.

Thrilled to share our new prepreprint on the nutritional control of #Nematostella Vasa+/Piwi+ cells. Prolonged starvation delays Tor activation & cell cycle re-entry indicating quiescence deepening! tinyurl.com/2k9azd4y

Heat stress drives rapid viral and antiviral innate immunity activation in Hexacorallia The cnidarian class Hexacorallia, encompassing stony corals and sea anemones, plays a critical role in marine ecosystems. Coral bleaching, the disruption of the symbiosis between stony corals and zoox...

1/3 I am very excited to tell you about our latest work where we looked not only into sea anemones but also 🪸
We find in #Nematostella that stress induces not immunity, but also viral replication, actually much faster than the immune response! 🧵

Happy to share that the Gahan lab will be branching out (or more like returning) to working on Nematostella in the near future. Details will follow but for now if anyone is interested in doing a Postdoc or PhD in 2025 on chromatin in Nematostella drop me a message :)
