On this day in 1910, the Morning News reported Wilmington had bested Atlantic City in a contest neither city had entered: a local mother of 21 (ages 6 to 32) edged the resort's champion of 20. The paper saluted her as "one woman exponent of the Roosevelt anti-race suicide policy."

LUSHINGTON: "My life has been full of mistakes. I made a bad one on the first day of my existence."
SMITH: "What was that?"
LUSHINGTON: "I cried for milk when there was brandy in the house."
On this day in 1945, the News Journal ran this gem out of Rhode Island: a WWI vet claimed his wooden leg froze so brittle he left it in the woodshed — where the cat found it licking maple syrup off it. The cat declined to comment.

[April 13th, 1926] Built by the British in 1765, Cape Henlopen Lighthouse in Lewes, Delaware collapsed into the sea during a northeast gale. The 93-foot stone tower was the second oldest lighthouse on the Atlantic coast and had been crumbling for years despite efforts to save it.
Congratulations to both Trevor A. Dawes and The University of Delaware (UD) Library, Museums and Press, a longtime member and influential leader, for being named the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Librarian of the Year!
