Dude was named head of CSHL at 40!!, which pretty much means that he was doing much more administrative than scientific work

YOU try making a science shattering discovery while half of your brain is occupied elsewhere, see how it goes

*whispers* also, he actually did some important work on mRNA and the human genome project was pretty important

The man was flawed enough, bash him on his flaws!!
But to say "well, besides that DNA business what has he done?" Is, IMHO, a failure to recognize the impact of the biggest discovery in biology since ........... Darwin, perhaps?

I really dislike that I feel like I have to "stick up" or whatever for a reprehensible human being like Watson (maybe that's on me and I should just keep quiet) BUT, repeatedly seeing the man described as a failure is CRAAAAZY revisionism and a serious case of "what have you done for me lately"

TL,DR We had a good time visiting some of our Portuguese colleagues this week, where we talked #phage and ran into some old and new faces

Our visit had it all: good science, good food and even an unexpected seismic drill
