As every year, kinda glad it's over since I inevitably get a bit heated during some rounds
NOT as every year, my choice actually won!!! So slightly better

Seemed to be going pretty good, final 4 were mostly celebrated
The bot controversy kinda made the whole thing colapse, IMHO
Best show ever made, I've been thinking of getting a "Re-elect Frank Sobotka" t-shirt for the past week and this might've just convinced me to pull the trigger
It's my new mission in life to get everyone to listen to Yasi Salek's interview with Spheeris last week (also with ARP) on Bandsplain
It radicalized me to vote for her
In a better world, we'd give professorships to people who like being professors ๐คท๐ป
Grateful to all the people who trained me and proud of the few I've gotten to train
"Meanwhile, researchers continue to confront molecular details of such byzantine complexity that some of them are abandoning hope of any theoretical understanding, concluding that only AI can sort it outโnot by offering understanding but by replacing one black box with another"

Do you think he's lead or supporting? This is my silly category fraud crusade this year ๐คท๐ป
Tryin to finish the year in style ๐
Now I kinda wanna know if Wilkins was a Spurs supporter
Wasn't it a fan account that shared this?
That final comment on Watson, tho ๐๐๐คฃ๐คฃ
Aguably the best subplots season to season?
When he gets beat up for calling Kima's phone after she's been shot .......... goddamn
My boss is in a new documentary!!!
You should check it out because, I don't know if you've heard but phages are pretty cool ๐๐

Well, I know what I'm doing the rest of the week @matthewcobb.bsky.social
All I can think about is this
We were at the "Phages in Nancy" meeting last week and had a very fun time!
You can read all about it on this tread ๐งต

Vented a little, might delete later ๐คท๐ป
Just don't shit on the double helix, ok? (The discovery, not the book ...... you can shit on the book, that's up to you)
Dude was named head of CSHL at 40!!, which pretty much means that he was doing much more administrative than scientific work
YOU try making a science shattering discovery while half of your brain is occupied elsewhere, see how it goes
*whispers* also, he actually did some important work on mRNA and the human genome project was pretty important
The man was flawed enough, bash him on his flaws!!
But to say "well, besides that DNA business what has he done?" Is, IMHO, a failure to recognize the impact of the biggest discovery in biology since ........... Darwin, perhaps?
I really dislike that I feel like I have to "stick up" or whatever for a reprehensible human being like Watson (maybe that's on me and I should just keep quiet) BUT, repeatedly seeing the man described as a failure is CRAAAAZY revisionism and a serious case of "what have you done for me lately"
TL,DR We had a good time visiting some of our Portuguese colleagues this week, where we talked #phage and ran into some old and new faces
Our visit had it all: good science, good food and even an unexpected seismic drill
You can read all about it on this thread ๐งต
Is he holding a phage?
Well, that's one hell of a way to start a letter!!
Look, they gave your boy a mic and a captive audience, they should've known it was gonna get pretty silly, pretty fast ๐คท๐ป
In which we offer our comment on a cool work and (hopefully) start some conversation โ๐ผโ๐ผ
Happy Nobel prize day!!!
This year we celebrate all the PhD candidates who had to learn intracellular staining by looking for foxP3 in their samples ๐ฅฒ๐ฅฒ๐๐
