'Increases in privatisation generally corresponded with worse quality of care, with no studies included in the review finding unequivocally positive effects on health outcomes.'
Nothing new here but govt still keen to increase use of private sector despite all the evidence that it doesn't help pts

Yesterday I visted Staploe Medical Centre in #Soham to hear GPs’ concerns about rising employer NI contributions and the strain on primary care. Grateful for their hard work—our practices need proper support to keep delivering vital services. #EastCambs #PrimaryCare #NHS

UK risks ‘sleepwalking’ into a waste of doctors’ skills, GMC Chief Executive warns A GMC Website page that might be of interest to you.

In England and Wales, the number of locally employed doctors grew by 75% between 2019 and 2023.

Doctors on the specialist register grew by 13% & GP register grew by 9%.

Training bottlenecks are being created, limiting opportunities for our doctors. www.gmc-uk.org/news/news-ar...

2024 GMC “ Without action we will sleepwalk into a situation where lost legions of doctors are overlooked and undervalued”

If Drs strikes and GP collective action can’t stop the sleepwalking though what can?

Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating in USA!🦃🍂

Sharing a fun fact I learned from @empoisonpharmd.bsky.social (thnx!):

The potatoes on your plate today contain ~38 μg/kg of diazepam. Plants have benzo receptors too!

GPs can’t work productively over lots of practices esp when newly qualified and needing lots of mentoring. It’s unsafe and will increase core GP workload.

Funding is insufficient and PCNs/ practices cannot afford top up.

Back to the drawing board…

I qualified in 1998 and we regularly had young adults on the medical take with meningitis (including the sickest and scariest patient I ever looked after when I was an SHO on call)
Now on the medical take we very, very rarely see this disease

#TeamGP OOH today.

Patient who I saw as a child with their parent, now with children of their own, wanting to see me because they have great memories of care provided.

The concept of family doctor is a powerful one for patients. This continuity of care is better for us in General Practice too.
