I had something like this happen to me somewhat recently as well. I've read a shit ton of fanfic since the beginning of the month.

Geology map of Nova Scotia, with mosaic of colours, orange, green, light blue, yellow and pink, representing the distribution of rocks of specific types and ages.
Geology map of Nova Scotia with colours brown, yellow and light blue, distributed around the Bay of Fundy, North Shore and Cape Breton.
Two geology maps of #NovaScotia. The first is the full geology map of Nova Scotia, the second is what a palaeontologist sees - all the sedimentary formations with potential fossils. βοΈ.
What do you see when you look at a geology map?
Forensic geology gone wrong...

A picture of an embroidered pterosaur, it's not of a specific species. I made this little guy when I was learning more modern dino anatomy, the front legs off (the joints are supposed to be backwards), making the little guy standing more like a dog than a real ptero whoops
I retook a picture of one of my old works.
Here's a pterosaur, it has some anatomical mistakes, but I still like it

a screenshot of an AO3 post describing the linked destiny fanfic: Part 36 of the ongoing On Like A Housefire series, the rating is M for non-graphic sex. A black knit beanie hat with the Warmind and SIVA symbols from the Destiny franchise patterned in red around the body of the hat. There is a faux black leather tag on the brim that has the Seraph symbol and the words "Seventh Seraph : Warm-Mind" printed on it. The hat is laid flat over the Destiny Grimoire vol. 1 book which is also red with gold text on the cover.
A close up on the same black and red-patterned beanie hat, focusing on the ribbed and folded brim, and the faux leather tag with the Warm-Mind pun arranged like a merchandise logo.
Bungie might have moved on from my faves but I haven't. <3 This is my own home-brew pattern and I am extremely pleased with how it turned out. Happy Birthday to me!

You'll have to forgive me for forgetting exactly which one this is after 10 years of not touching them.
#FossilFriday Have a Triassic pectinoid from Williston Lake, BC from when I did field work in grad school.
Happy Birthday!!!
A pair of small dinosaur tracks, with a roundish smaller track (3 cm wide) in front of a larger three-toed track (8 cm long and 8 cm wide), preserved in a gray sandstone; my left index finger is pointing to the larger track and serving as scale (about 2 cm wide).
For #FossilFriday, a pair (front foot, rear foot) of wee little ornithopod tracks in the Dakota Formation (~100 mya) at Dinosaur Ridge near Morrison, CO. Dinosaur Ridge is one of the most popular dinosaur tracksites in the U.S. (cc: @dinoridge.bsky.social, @maryanningsrevenge.bsky.social)
A bedding surface with lots of little holes (gas bubbles formed beneath a microbial mat) and a pointy ended frond of Arborea spinosa with a large disc (bottom) and a above us a bushy/tree-shaped frond of Primocandelabrum, also with basal holdfast disc
Iβve been a bit remiss with #FossilFriday (teaching palaeontology for the first time since 2005).
The ground is thawing here and we have had a couple of field days already so here is a newly uncovered A. spinosa and a Primocandelabrum sp. to enjoy from our #Ediacaran #InnerMeadow lagerstatte.
Printout of image of banana bread recipe. Darkest annotations are mine: all others, as well as stains, etc, are OP's.
In the "I Can't Find This Nice Person To Thank Them" dep't: A banana bread recipe for which someone posted this image on or around (my printout says) 26 March 2025 at 12:58 PM (also UT, as I don't think we'd changed over to daylight at that point). Dark notes mine: all others OP's. #breadsky
My favorite baking cook book is in similar state. I have a first edition and I keep thinking i should get a new copy to preserve this one, but the recipes aren't the same in the new edition.
I needed to get out, eat something and do some exercise apparently. Thank you. I feel slightly better now. I don't know if I'll ever be able to internalize that I'm an OK person, but maybe someday
My mood just plummeted after work today. I'm struggling to find motivation for anything. I just don't want to fight anymore. I feel like a failure and an awful human being.
No. I wanted to travel, I wanted to work in the field I worked towards for all my life until I fell apart in grad school. I did not want to be stuck in the same state I grew up in. I did not want to be in a dead end job that I hate every day with no way out.
The finished yarn from the fiber i posted the other day! Shaniko from Yarnaceous Fibers in the Joshua Tree national park colorway from last month's club. Spun up as a 2 ply worsted. #fiberarts #spinning #handspinning
Have you gotten applesies and foxnoses yet? I heard that it's possibly been reprinted. It's a gold mine of card weaving patterns
After a couple weeks of stalling out on crafting i decided to abandon the spin i had on the wheel for now and start this braid that I just got from Yarnaceous Fibers for their national parks and fossils club. The colorway is Joshua Tree National Park. #spinning #fiberarts
This is an astonishing fossil find: an Early Triassic (~250 mya) baby Lystrosaurus still in "egg position" with/ 2 other babies, showing these mammal precursors hatched from eggs! Did these burrowers also nest in burrows? Must. Read. Article. Congrats to @jenniferbotha.bsky.social & colleagues! π§ͺπͺ¨π₯

tumblr calling me out with this post.
So I guess I'm 50.
For my birthday, I would love to see at least 50 people share their favorite fossil. It can be something you found, saw in a museum or just your favorite from a book/paper.
This is one of my favorites. Gennaeocrinus mourantae from the Devonian Arkona formation of Ontario.
I'm quite fond of Claraia sp. (Not my photos) since I studied them in grad school. Cool little Triassic pectinoids.
The Workshop
On the left, two black and white photographs of Silica Shale brachiopod Paraspirifer bownockeri (UMMP 63146) in anterior (upper image) and ventral (lower image) view. Scale bars below each image are 10 mm. On the right, two plots illustrating the analysis conducted on fauna encrusting these molluscs. At the top, the results of the non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) analysis showing the numbers of epibiont taxa on individual brachiopod specimens (blue for 1, green for 2, yellow for 3 and red for 4). At the bottom, the results of a Spearman correlation analysis showing presence/absence data for a range of encrusting taxa on the dorsal valve. The colour scale indicates a range of positive (cool, blue colours) to negative (warm, red colours) correlation. Five pairs of taxa show a significant correlation (each indicated with a star): four negative and one positive.

One of my favorite movies! I really loved the series when I was little π¦π
I don't think you working on ideas that go nowhere is futile in the long run. Each one teaches you more in some way. I know it's easy for me to say, but much harder to do, but i think it would help if you were about to do that writing without expectation. That would be rest in itself.
