Watching this when I was deliriously ill made me quit Ibuprophen.

Sigils, like memes, represent the compacting of a more complex idea, thus increasing the efficiency of their spread. In the same way, the intricacies of these demons' original designs is broken down into symbols, which fluctuate and interweave with each other a more fluid means of representation that delivers similar results as an objective depiction. This is a testament to the subjective nature of reality. Green and blue are only different because English establishes them as two colours, but an older form of Japanese considered both colours 'ao'. It's all about the medium. The scope of what Neseltahar is has extende beyond its original form as a cat-headed chicken. It now has a greater range of what can possibly represent it. We recognise these arrangements of shapes as Neseltahar due to the pattern-seeking nature of our brain, regardless of the presence of fur, feathers etc.

Shitty preliminary sketch when I first designed him.

Included the cuneiform for wheat in there because he likes ripping fat wheat darts.

Here be his sigil.

How I came up with the name: To 'salt a bird's tail' is to prevent it from flying. The Mamas and Papas song 'No Salt On Her Tail' is about the opposite, flying free without a care in the world. So I removed the vowels and double letters from this phrase to yield "NSLTHR". As is often done when transliterating languages without vowels to English, I just added a bunch of As and Es wherever I saw fit. Thus, "Neseltahar". While it may have no salt on its tail, it certainly will use its freedom to salt yours.

Neseltahar, demon of hedonism and complacency. Conjure him by opening ShitTok, InstantGrat, etc blablabla. I hook myself up to the Pleasure Cuboid more than I'd like. DFW didn't kill himself. He warned us.

Making a sigil for a demon (left). Said demon is based on the Aztec goddess of childbirth, Coatlicue. Childbirth and self destruction are both exchanges of pain for something, new life or alleviation from a greater pain. This demon represents the latter, the way we self-sabotage and are ultimately consumed by it. "Relief (,) from pain" is a refrain I made in order to create the sigil, a double entendre based on whether you include the comma. Translated the refrain to another language, then transliterated it to a writing system I invented, removed the vowels and repeating letters, then visually arranged the leftovers into a sigil à la the Goetia. Her name (still deciding between Velnise or Bavad) is also sourced from this initial stew of letters A visual manifestation of this feeling. Sigils are often likened to circuit boards, they are a means of conducting energy (in this case a strong emotion). Self destruction is like the hair-of-the-dog. Cathartic initially but expontentially grinds you down even more. Can't fight fire with fire. I've been needing to fill my life with love, and so I rip everything out of my head and put it on paper. I would be nothing without my art. Goddammit. Also including a leshy from Slavic folklore. Need some variety for the project.
