I am no expert on mushroom identification, but believe this to be a yellow oyster mushroom cluster. The cluster is tiered. The tops of the mushrooms are a golden yellow. The gills run down the cone shaped stems. They are growing on a decaying fallen tree. They are fresh and untouched. Simply beautiful!

I know this place... I have scaled those rocks in both directions several times. How it feels is so dependent on the day, the temperature the miles behind you, the weight on your back and in your head... At least there is a view to reward you.

New growth emerges from last year's vine. Two clusters of flowers, future grapes are just tiny at this point, but give promise of a harvest.

I was worried that cutting back the vine so dramatically at the wrong time would really hurt the grape yield. We're off to a fairly good start. #backyardgarden #gardening #nature

An empty cow pasture in the foreground gives way to a forest of spring trees coming to life with new leaves. In the background, the mountains of Tenessee rise in waves of peaks like a rough sea.

A panned out view of the tree banch and blooms. The tree grows on a steeply sloped woodland.

The garden bed has just a few seeds right now. There was frost only a few days ago. It sits in a garden bed where I experimented and failed with many plants. The the soil was ok, but not deep. Deep rooted weeds invaded and frustrated efforts. The raised bed is just 6 ft. by 2 ft. Very narrow.

This is a before photo. I had previously used brick borders to hold in an added layer of dirt. I used a screen to remove rocks, weeds and weed roots and moved the dirt to the other side of the garden. Even with screening, I did not trust that weeds would be fully eliminated. With the ground barrier down, the raised bed was put in place and filled with a layer of cardboard, then small sticks, compost and new dirt.

The image is the raised bed under construction on the driveway. My son did the work. My husband is the chef. He was given final say on what we would grow.

Doing a very small experiment with a raised garden bed. There are also plans for a place for potatoes. We are hesitant to go big until we know we can do it.

I have about 20 miles of Virginia remaining. Will I be able to share that story later this spring?

Virginia AT - YouTube Appalachian Trail Section Hike series from the state of Virginia.

When I started creating videos, I had not yet found my footing. I tried to emulate silent hiking videos from epic locations. I didn't want my face in the camera. The Virginia AT Playlist shows the evolution of my journey on the trail and behind the camera. From cringe to wow. #hiking #backpacking

Diggingin my garden, I found two blue quartz rocks. In all honesty, I probably found them years ago, enjoyed for a few days before putting them in a pile of rocks in the garden. Not a rockhound... #nature #rocks #rockhound They are pretty.

I left the umbrella in the car. The rain was not expected to be significant and mostly at night. It made a difference. We ended up staying in hostels most nights. I was able to offload some gear. I was the only one in the group disappointed with that outcome.๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Hmm, wonder if our trail club knows about that area? I'm sure it does, I just haven't been. I spray my shoes with Permethrin. I know the ticks are bad because my dog has white fur. Thankfully, easy to see the buggers.
