It is 2006. I am excited to get to Warbirds Over Wanaka and see a loud, grey US-designed jet with supersonic performance.

i've never seen a photo of MrBeast that doesn't look like something a lizard person conspiracy theorist would spend 100 hours zooming into the eyes of for evidence of shape-shifting

This comment was on a story about the pending(?) closure of Coventry Airport, focused on Air Atlantique and led with an image of a DC-6 (I think?). It puts into words something I’ve been thinking for some time and feels equally applicable to the sale of a historic aircraft.

My cat George (RIP) staring off into a misty Nottinghamshire morning, at the beginning of a short walk we took together in October 2015.

My cat George (RIP) staring off into a misty Nottinghamshire morning, at the beginning of a short walk we took together in October 2015.

I've taken the paywall off this eulogy I wrote for my magical, mysterious ex-stray cat George - who died last year - in case anybody would like a read.

It was very, very hard to write but I think it might be my favourite thing I’ve ever written about cats.

A really massive puffball mushroom I foraged in Cornwall, and which is glad to be living after the year 1983, when it became mandatory in the UK for all front seat passengers to wear a seat belt.

IMPORTANT: When transporting a giant puffball mushroom you have recently foraged, it is absolutely crucial that you ensure the mushroom is firmly strapped into the passenger seat of your car to guard against sharp braking and potential whiplash

“What is that in your bed?”

“It’s a puffball mushroom I foraged.”

“Why is it there?”

“I was worried it had got cold and sad.”

“But you’re going to eat it soon anyway.”

“The fact that we all have to die at some point doesn’t mean we should not live well, in comfort, beforehand.”

A squirrel outside my old kitchen, in 2022. This guy stole a LOT of the bird food I put out and it soon began to show. However, he remained very agile, and I used to love watching him swinging across the river next to my house using branches from the overhanging trees, like a small furry grey Tarzan.

Good facts about squirrels' tails I have learned:
1. Squirrels can fan out their tails, turn them around and use them as umbrellas when it’s raining.
2. Squirrels have occasionally been known to use their tails as rafts, to help them cross rivers.

Did you miss me? Current status. It was a silver monster, then a lumpy blue monster (masking tape) now a shiny black lumpy monster, but I'm surprisingly pleased to be here - nearing the end of the build and (fingers crossed) the end of #HeaviesGB in #histscalemodels, thanks, @jaaaagirr.bsky.social!

People complaining about current TV and Film: “Everything is the same. It’s all soulless, recycled, corporate-controlled. computer generated garbage.”

People given access to a soulless corporate-owned computer-generated idea recycler: “Creativity is democratized! Now I can make movies!”

Aftet the election in New York I saw a lot of doom and gloom posts lamenting the imminent death of the city and how AWFUL the Mayor-elect was. After his meeting with Trump I’m curious to see if those people do a 180.

Me too, until recently. I have three other Frog sheets that were out for about three months and they’re still not quite back to normal. Most frustrating given previous luck, but I need to remember they’re old!

Old models can be such a delight, but the decal thing is a real issue if one doesn’t have the cash for nice aftermarket replacements.

Cool: getting a 50+year old model kit you’ve wanted for a long time, in this case the Frog 1/72 Westland Wyvern.

Less cool: the fact decals age. This could get interesting. Just taking off the wax paper was painful! #histscalemodels

The Blu-Tack and Maskol technique worked a treat, although I need to do some touch-ups and mask was rough to apply. I remembered that RNZAF Canberras probably had hard-edge camo, but this has been more of a learning build than an all-out accuracy hunt.

“Surely there’s a middle ground here?” - video game studio CEO on “extreme takes” when debating AI

“Of course there is. Don't fire people in favor of computers, don't plagiarize using "ai," don't create total garbage with "ai", and test whatever you make with "ai" to make sure it's not garbage, plagiarizing, or replacing humans.” - Reddit user RustyDawg37

I felt lucky to watch the Luftwaffe Airbus A321 15+10 on finals over the house on Saturday. It was a lovely day for it.

I’ve been really enjoying seeing this and the two A400Ms from our house and just haven’t felt the need to try photograph them. Just experiencing it is nice.
