🚨Paper Alert 🚨: PanK4 Identified as Regulator of Glucose and Lipid #Metabolism. A new study led by mkleinert.bsky.social at our DZD-Partner #DIfE has identified PanK4 as a key regulator of energy metabolism in skeletal muscle. ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️

Islet from aged mouse vs islet from young mice after 10 weeks of IF - IHC for Nkx6.1
Today, we report that chronic intermittent fasting impairs beta-cell maturation and function in adolescent mice. Using scRNAseq, we delineated a "maturation score" for beta-cells. Long-term IF good if you're older, might be harmful if you are still developing!

Our new paper from @clemmensenc.bsky.social @metabolcenter.bsky.social is available online! I briefly summarize here our findings on the effects of short-term overfeeding in mice! We show real time energy expenditure data during and after overfeeding! diabetesjournals.org/diabetes/art... 🧵 (1/n)

Shamelessly😬 reposting our recent work to a broader metabolism network—thanks to @frezzalab.bsky.social starter packs. We’d love to hear your thoughts!
Thanks and would be chuffed to be added.
With two complete starter packs (in my profile), here is a 3rd one for the ever-growing metabolism community. Please contact me if you are working (prerequisite) on metabolism and want to be included here; there is still some space. I will keep updating it.

Why Is the American Diet So Deadly?
A scientist tried to discredit the theory that ultra-processed foods are killing us. Instead, he overturned his own understanding of obesity.

NEW ISSUE! We start 2025 approaching gut-brain crosstalk from a variety of perspectives, including neuroendocrine regulation of gut-brain signaling, interaction between microbiome and circadian rhythms, microbial metabolites associated with gut health and the potential of microbiome-based therapies.
A really nice special issue in @jphysiol.bsky.social by Dr. Chris Sundberg “Physiology of ageing skeletal muscle and the protective effects of exercise” feat. some work by our lab and many others! Check it out @myoblue.bsky.social physoc.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/toc/14697793...

Curious about muscle metabolism? 🚴♂️ We reveal PanK4 as a conserved exercise target in muscle! 💪 PanK4 regulates lipid & glucose use likely via acetyl-CoA. We think PanK4 belongs alongside Akt, mTOR, AMPK, Rac1 & more as a key player in muscle energy homeostasis. #Metabolism #MyoBlue
Thanks for the shout-out! Your 2022 paper was super helpful. Would be fun to find out what these phos sites (T406 and S63) do to PanK4 function, localization, etc...
