📣 In celebration of yesterday's International Women's Day, let us all take a moment to listen, reflect, and take action.

International Women's Day is a moment to acknowledge the progress we have made, but also the barriers that shape careers, experiences, and connections in geology and beyond.

Too many satellites? Earth’s orbit is on track for a catastrophe – but we can stop it Cultural, spiritual, and most environmental impacts aren’t taken into account when launching thousands of satellites.

Perhaps we should sort out the messes we've already got before we start a whole new one

Oh yeah I know the wedgies don't care about the finches. I just thought they'd find the cats tasty. - I knew of a hopping mouse colony that lived in an urban yard with a pit bull. The dog couldn't catch the mice but they benefitted from its desire to chase cats out of its yard

shout-out to "Wetlands in the arid Northern Territory" (Duguid et al. 2005) for a great discussion on classifying wetlands in a moisture-limited landscape

migrating my follow-following links from Xitter to here. What a big job. By some odd coincidence, much of the online community engagement dropped right off after mid-2022. I really miss the active community that was present before that time

Screen grab of an irritatingly judgemental and inaccurate title on an otherwise fairly informative ABC news article about floodwaters moving towards Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre "The barren wasteland about to transform into Australia's largest lake".

FFS could the #ABCnewsAustralia please stop referring to drylands Australia in these derogatory ways. Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre is a fine piece of geography, wet or dry. Not a wasteland. Geez. Pejorative much?

wondering why his abstract was accepted for an oral slot? I'd hate to think any ECR researchers missed an opportunity to present their stuff

there should be some kind of Internet bingo for the offspring of scientists, to tick the boxes when the sciencies at the dinner table start using words like "polygenetic"

Yesterday's field trip up the Waipaoa catchment, lots to learn about uplift, lithology and landslide risk, and cyclone-driven sedimentation. 20m aggradation in this river valley! and terraces and views
