Dialysis tubing a a large two litre beaker containing detergent buffer, The dialysis tubing contains a purple coloured liquid that is the RC-LH1 complex from Sediminicoccus rubea, a bacterium first isolated from Iceland. The purple coloured carotenoid will be isolated from this complex and the carotenoid structure determined by NMR.
Dialysing sucrose out of the Sediminicoccus rosea RC-LH1 complex, before concentrating and extracting the novel purple carotenoid. Its structure will be determined by NMR and fitted into the RC-LH1 cryo-EM contour density.
