I was pleased to have the chance to share the work of @gleworld.bsky.social with New Zealand’s Minster of #mentalhealth Hon. Matt Doocey today.
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our friend and colleague Erin Geaney
We mourn the loss of someone we cared about deeply, who always went out of her way to help others
Our thoughts are with Erin's husband, children and wider family 🤍
This highlights once again the inescapable connection between #mentalhealth and #housing
and the damage done by the lack of access both for clients and providers.

Returning from a few days away, hearing the #NHS planning guidance abandons a number of key areas that will stall, denude or plain stop progress in #mentalhealth #improvement, #prevention and #parity. Demoralising that the progress made in last 25 years is now at risk.
@theguardian.com reporting on study showing continued rise in #child #mentalhealth admissions over the last 10 years. We need to focus on both the capacity and response but we should also ask what’s driving and causing this rise and how to address it.

Lovely to be back in #utrecht for my first work trip of 2025. Looking forward to meetings with my #dutch #mentalhealth colleagues tomorrow.
I’ve mixed feelings about the announcement of the commission on #socialcare Louise Casey is undoubtedly the right person to lead it, but another three years to wait for a sector struggling to survive. I guess hopefulness is my overriding sense.

In an attempt to hold on to the last vestiges of Christmas, a pint of #Yuletide from @adnamssouthwold.bsky.social Today I was delighted to see that the one and only @solebear-adnams.bsky.social is following me. The man is a brewing genius!
As we mourn the passing of #presidentjimmycarter it is worth reminding ourselves of his and his wife Rosalyn’s contribution to #mentalhealth which was hugely significant and continues through the work of @cartercenter.bsky.social
It is profoundly disturbing that #pronerestraint continues to be used in the #mentalhealth system, despite plans to stop
it. I fail to understand how we find ourselves here again making the argument for its cessation.

A green square graphic. Words read: "Important Announcement: Mental Health Investment Standard Will Stay."
We are relieved that Health Secretary Wes Streeting has confirmed the continuation of the Mental Health Investment Standard (MHIS) today. The MHIS ensures that local mental health services in England receive essential, protected funding so that millions of people access support.

Must mention @drsarahhughesceo.bsky.social and #Mind #rethink #sirsimonstevens and others who lobbied hard to keep the #MHIS in place
@wesstreetingmp.bsky.social has pledged to keep the #mentalhealth #investment standard” which protects spending on mental healthcare, but has revealed 2025-26 planning rules will not be confirmed until next year. This welcome news and in part due to #VSCE leaders campaigning @assocmhp.bsky.social
Fascinating listening to Gwen Adshead giving this years #reithlectures. A thoughtful and studied analysis of four key questions, someone is respect hugely for her work, particularly in challenging perceptions about #violence and #mentalillness.

📢 Protect Social Care
National Insurance increases are set to push #SocialCare to the brink: wage freezes, service cuts, closures. We’re calling on the government to exempt social care providers from this to save crucial services and #Support.

As chair of the Association of #MentalHealth Providers, I am really aware of the key role of #VCSE organisations. They need the govt to listen and work with them to ensure they can continue to rocket viral support to over 8 million people.
