Today's 'Monday Home Cooking' lesson for the 13yo was a pasta bake. So easy, it's almost a ready meal, but totally delicious. Filling him with pride and his stomach with happiness. Learning a tiny bit of effort can give a lot of flavour.

She's very talented - she's exhibiting at a ceramic art show in London in a few weeks.

I dont like the factvthe AI has changed posture, as that may make it a significantly non-true record, however I am happy with AI use for sharpening, adding (accurate) feather detail, removing obscuring items, or tweaking backgrounds - as long as it reflects the truth of what YOU observed.
'Lost' British recipes are 'trending'. This is my favourite family recipe - we call it Rhubarb Drop. I preserved the recipe in my first cookbook.
There are similar things called 'Yorkshire Drop' but my family origins are in Notts mining communities.

Spent the day cycling round York with the 13yo, visiting artists and makers in their houses and workshops (and a pub stop for a cheeky pint and shared pizza). Treated myself to this small pot by Emily Stubbs - I absolutely love her ceramics.

When the 13yo wants me to get out of bed he lets Mitts into my room.

Sriracha Honey Wings
The basic method for wings is in my first book (www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/1739...), the sauce is so easy, and just added at the end:
Sauce: Mix 4tbsp sriracha sauce, 4tbsp runny honey, 2tsp rice vinegar, 1/2tsp sesame oil. Sprinkle sesame seeds over.

I have to put things the birds like (cabbage, pak choi, kale) in tunnels. But hardy vigorous things like beetroot, broad beans, onions, and (bizarrely) lettuces are ok in the open (not many snails here). Thecthingsci plant also tend to be ok for early planting out to get things going.
I also tend to inly plant things that keep well (either in the ground or in storage) and therefore will mostly get used.
I only plant relatively hardy things that need little fuss, things that can grow without scaffolding, and to avoid things like soft fruits where you just end up feeding the birds. It's minimum-effort but maximum-yield allotmenting.
The bench faces south, it's on top of a small hill with no road within 100 metres, yet is only a mile from York city centre (and just round the corner from my house - which has no garden).
The allotment is finally in a decent shape.
Planted: onions, garlic, potatoes, broad beans, beetroot, lettuces, pointed cabbage, kale, cauliflower. Leeks leftover from last year.
Perennial jerusalem artichokes starting to sprout.
Still to plant: courgette, sweetcorn, dwarf runner beans.
Fish:
Mix 1/2tsp each of turmeric, cumin, coriander, Madras curry powder, pinch cinnamon, grate 1 garlic clove & 2cm ginger, zest & juice 1 lime, chopped coriander & dill, 2tbsp Greek yoghurt, 1tbsp olive oil
Marinade basa fillets, 30 min
Season with salt & pepper
Fry in olive oil, 3-4 min per side
Bandari Basa & Tomato Salad with Pomegranate Molasses
(Serve with flatbreads)
Huge hit with the 13yo
Salad:
Slice good tomatoes, green pepper red onion
Mix 2tbsp pomegranate molasses, 1tbsp olive oil, 1tsp sumac, 1/2tsp sea salt
Drizzle over salad
Top with chopped walnuts

Thank you.
Easy 'Paella'
This recipe will probably annoy anyone Spanish, but its easy, really tasty, only takes 30 minutes, and the 13yo adores it. And it's one my favourite pieces of food writing about how the special becomes everyday from my latest book.

This basic recipe is in my latest book, but today I tweaked it and I'm really happy with the result. It's a seasonal celebration of Spring, perfect for afternoons spent walking in bluebell woods.

That said, I doubt someone would be arrrested unless the hazard was very high and/or there was intent to harm. But the Department could be prosecuted for failing to uphold health and safety and there could be internal disciplinary action against the individual.
We have very strict rules separating lab and office spaces. Office spaces are somewhere you can eat & drink. Our risk assessments require chemical handling and storage to take place only in designated laboratories. We even differentiate corridors based on whether chemical transport is allowed.
You could replace the tofu with chicken strips (add 2 min) or scallops.
You could replace asparagus with mange tout or purple sprouting broccoli.
You could add a bit of garlic before thd spring onions.
Adapt it to your taste, but that sauce mix is magic, umami, sweet, sour deliciousness!!

Tofu & Asparagus Yaki Udon
In today's 'home cooking' lesson, the 13yo made this dish. It perfectly marries his love of big Japanese flavour with his ADHD inability to focus and need for fast cooking! It's really tasty vegan food and so tasty - you have to try it!

The batter that goes into the tin (which should be buttered - sorry, I forgot to say) is very loose, wet and lumpy - don't worry - it all works out fine in the end!
Whisk 2 egg yolks with 80g caster sugar
Add 20g melted butter, juice & zest of 1 large lemon
Add 30g flour, mix
Whisk in 200ml milk
Separately whisk 2 egg whites to stiff
Fold into batter
Pour into 20cm round tin, in baking tray half-full of hot water
Fan 160, 40 min
Dust with icing sugar
Lemony Yorkshire Pudding
A delicious, easy pudding using store-cupboard ingredients. It has a set top, and a rich lemon sauce underneath. Serve with cream or ice cream.
Recipe follows - serves 2 with seconds, 3 normal people or 4 small portions.

I saw one today in East Yorkshire (no photo though).
Yes - its a shame its too far gone, otherwise it would have made a good Docklands/Humber Estuary History museum.
