Female Green crowned Brilliant perhaps?
Beak shape and the Buffy patch behind the eye suggests it’s a brilliant of some sort.

Here’s a guess, hopefully it narrows things down.

The shape of the beak and the whitish buff patch behind the eye sort of suggest it might be a Brilliant of some sort

In ten years of living in Central America I had to work a little harder every year to find even once common insects, particularly moths and the larger insects.
Anecdotal I know but still...
A White-tipped Sicklebill (Eutoxeres aquila) perched on a bare branch in front of orange coloured blossoms with a spider on its web on the foilage
The White-tipped Sicklebill (Eutoxeres aquila) painting, had a lot of fun painting this guy. They are known for eating spiders so I painted one in.

Haha! I think he was yelling at the other Euphonia’s to stop jumping the queue!

All the hummer species I’ve painted so far (I think) and all without a whiff of crappy Ai.
Don’t ever let anyone tell you making art isn’t a physical sport. There’s a lot of wrist cramps, eye fatigue and neck pain involved,
that’s counts as a physical sport right? #hummingbirds #birdsart #birds

I believe it.
Years ago a biologist friend was tasked to manage a crowd of twitchers at a rare bird event in BC. The crowd was so aggressive and out of control that he eventually found it dead from blunt force trauma
Just saw the Taiga Flycatcher at sunset beach in Vancouver.
What I saw today of the behaviour of the crowd of photographers is why I don’t report rare sightings anymore.
There, I said it. #taigaflycatcher #birdwatching #vancouverrarebirds

I mostly post my bird art here but “sailor” is in the bio as well so I thought I’d post a photo from last summer’s sailing trip
Sunrise at Clam bay, woke up crazy early (4:30 am) to catch the slack at Dodd narrows.
A spectacular morning.

I love these feisty little guys!
Once saw about twenty of them mobbing a Costa Rican Pygmy owl, they sure were noisy.
The noise and commotion was how we found the owl.
A male and female Bare-necked Umbellabird perched on bare branches amongst foliage in an even morning light
Here’s the Bare-necked umbrellabird (Cephalopterus glabricollis) painting which I’ve yet to see in the wild.
No painting in this collection is considered finished until I do.
Curating photos to achieve a type specimen example is never enough.

These paintings are done in Procreate on the iPad. I like working in Procreate because it more closely resembles the oil and tempra painting techniques I’ve used for most of my career.
