I saw a group of kids do this while on a recycling run, and had to stop them briefly to explain why it was a bad idea, literally setting fire to other peoples money. We all deserve to have as little trash end up in our landfills and the kids said they'd spread the word!
I intend to blog about this experience soon. The journey has been too interesting not to share and led to the happiest days of my life so far, coming out of the grief of losing my brother last year and plunging into deep isolation. It has also driven me to finish many of my languishing art projects.
My fellow recyclers have been welcoming in the best possible ways, watching each other's property, passing down strollers, bags & carts when they upgrade and expertise into which techniques and methods are best. The free food and clothing I have come across and passed on to the homeless is amazing!
In the past 2 weeks I have embarked on a project to become the best Can Bottle & Glass recycler in Harlem using only found or donated equipment & encountered WILD success. My ADHD Hypomania has led me to v17 of my portable rigs, made me look & feel 10 years younger and nearly ended my introversion-
There is SO MUCH LOVE in what a Librarian (Mom), a Composer (Dad), and an Engineer (Brother) left behind for me via their lives' passions that it elicits tears of joy in this maelstrom we call life. To cut through I've become a beverage recycler in NYC and it is great exercise and levels up quickly!

I have to say I'm glad boba straws exist to counteract the enshitification of normal straws via paper. There are like 4 or 5 gauges of straws outside the norm and I'm unashamedly collecting them to the degree that I have a functional 80s telescoping antenna straw. (SFX: cackling laughter)
