Apply today to Salk Edge, a 2-week, technique-intensive summer program offering hands-on training, soft skills workshops, and direct engagement with Salk faculty.
The students will also receive $1,500 to help implement these new technologies in their own PhD lab.

More than 100 minutes… so between 1.5-2 hours of material? doesn’t sound like sufficient data to make any meaningful conclusions 🤷♀️
thanks! it was great to meet you too, see you at the next conference!
... but before leaving Vienna, I couldn't resist some local #patisserie 🍰 Just... glorious.
thanks @iuisjuniorcomm.bsky.social for inviting us to their career fair where I had a chance to talk about how I got started with my #sci_comm gig! I loved the discussion afterwards
So long, Vienna! I'm back home in Amsterdam after a great week of #immunology at #IUIS2025! I had an amazing time! Check out @immunologypodcast.com for daily episodes covering our favorite talks & recording of the live episode! Thanks @iuis-online.bsky.social! See you all in Toronto #IUIS2028
Cool abstract talks from Charlotte Zajc @meduniwien.ac.at about engineering CARs with ON- and OFF-switches modulated by small molecules & Carolina Mangana @cemm.oeaw.ac.at about changes in tumor-draining LNs brought up by increased myeloid (Mo/Mac) infiltration and loss of T cell zone

Gabriel is opening a new lab in #Barcelona with support of @caixaresearch.bsky.social - and they are hiring!
Next in the session: Gabriel Rabinovich (@University of Buenos Aires)☝️ Galectin 1 promotes tumor growth in many ways, such interaction w/ VEGFR2 to promote angiogenesis (resistant to anti-VEGF therapy) & enhancement of myeloid suppressor cells 💡GAL1-neutralizing mAb could help.

The band was awesome! Looking forward to their next tour date #IUIS2028 🎶
@iuis-online.bsky.social make sure to book them well in advance, I am sure these musicians are in high demand 🤣
Another daily episode is out! Our highlights from yesterday's sessions

🔬 Struggling to design multiparametric #flow #cytometry experiments?
Learn how to cut through the complexity and build experiments that work in our training course with @ddcytometry.bsky.social, taking place on 17 & 24 September.

... 2️⃣ Logic-gating: IF-BETTER gates target 2 antigens-> enhanced activity when primary Ag expression low 3️⃣ inactivating mutation of 2/3 of CD3 ITAM domains improves CAR-T cell persistence w/o affecting function - only 25M dose sufficient for protective response in B cell lymphoma
#IUIS2025 Day 5! Time flies when having fun! Started the day w/ excellent talk from Michael Sadelain @columbiacancer.bsky.social about the current state of CAR T cell therapy and exciting approaches 1️⃣ HLA-independent TCRs interact with CD3 molecules for increased sensitivity and work in low Ag...
Also in the #neuroimmunology session: David Hafler @yaleschoolofmed.bsky.social - IFNg+CD4 cells in brain: come from gut, similar to WAT T cells, affect behavior / increased infiltration in early Parkinson's brain precedes symptoms - could targeting this inflammation be key to prevent progression?
A huge thank-you to Dr. Zwi Berneman for joining us for this special show at #IUIS2025, and thanks to everyone who came to listen!
If you missed it, the episode will be published on podcast platforms next week!
You can see how happy we were to see Dr. James Allison in person at #IUIS2025! 😁
We had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Allison in 2024. Listen to the conversation here: https://bit.ly/47EUFYm
just look at those little buddies interacting in vitro! #neuroimmunology
@iuis-online.bsky.social #IUIS2025 Day 4! reporting for the @immunologypodcast.com Started the day w/ neuro immunology session - cool story from Ulrich von Andrian @harvardmed.bsky.social -> close interaction of dermal DCs and nociceptive neurons in dermatitis & myeloid suppressor cells in cancer
Also on #IUIS2025 Day 3: keynote by Ruslan Medzhitov. Pet shop mice have pre-existing immunity (look at the size of those LNs!) and a crowded "antigenic space" with Th1/17/reg immunity. Allergic sensitization in SPF mice is possible because the antigenic space is available for full blown Th2
Next up: BRAIN EATING AMOEBA 😱 - Ashley Moseman from @duke-university.bsky.social: N. fowleri infection starts through olfactory nerves 👃 and because complement proteins: ❌ can't cross blood-olfactory barrier ❌ can't mark amoeba for neutrophil attack, pathogen 🦠 reaches brain ahead of immune cells 😵
Later on: @victora.bsky.social at RockefellerU used brainbow mice to study BCR evolution in individual GCs - tl;dr: GCs mostly do mutations that are easy, not most enhancing/ GCs are intolerant to loss of affinity / clonal bursts are not main drivers: rather slow evolution biased to higher affinity
I loved seeing the story from @iannaconelab.bsky.social presented live! HBV-infected hepatocytes can prime CD8 cells directly but CD4 help -> Kupffer cells (not DCs) -> CD27 is needed to prevent dysfunction (check episode #109 of @immunologypodcast.com for the full story!)
Day 3 #IUIS2025 @immunologypodcast.com
Lost a pair of pants and was late to the 1st session of today 🥲 - but enjoyed a masterclass on immune suppression after severe illness from Laura Cook @Peter Doherty Institute - finished strong w/cute organoid-derived pineapple shaped cilliated cells
#IUIS2025 Rising Stars: Thomas Krausgruber (@cemm.oeaw.ac.at ) w/ role of structural cells in response to acute/chronic LCMV infecions, Thomas Vogl (@meduniwien.ac.at) dramatic changes in Ab repertoires in 1y of life & @kedmiranit.bsky.social on interacting Rorgt+ APC and pTregs in oral tolerance.
Very cool plenary talk from Dan Littman from NYU on 20 years of RORgt history. Latest news: identity of RORgt+ tolerogenic APCs driving the development of pTreg populations in response to microbes & oral antigens! Cells are DC lineage (TolDCs) and RORgt + PRDM16 are key TFs.
#IUIS2025
Next up: grat talk from Willfred Ellmeier from @univie.ac.at about the effect of inhibiting HDAC1 in autoimmunity! Would be a great target for therapy but HDAC1-specific inhibitors are hard to come by...

#IUIS2025 Day 2!
Jochen Hühn(@helmholtzhzi.bsky.social): Tissue-resident Tregs show unique methylation vs. splenic Tregs. Residency depends on stromal cell conditioning
👉 Microbiome-derived tryptophan metabolites tune adipose stromal cells → IL-33 → support of ST2⁺ Tregs in fat tissue.
I'm at #IUIS2025 in #Vienna! On the ground reporting for the @immunologypodcast.com🎤 with by buddy Jason (@drsifujg.bsky.social)
Looking forward to a few days awesome talks, and to our LIVE PODCAST EPISODE on Thursday! #immunosky
