Your false crab and real crab seem similar to folks but are hugely divergent. Ty1 and Ty3 ltr are the equivalent in my world.

Sure, but I'm mostly thinking about folks for whom English is not their native language. I've worked with brilliant folks who write elegant logic and wonderful science but whose English grammar is problematic.

A black-and-white studio portrait photograph of Emma Lucy Braun, the pioneering American botanist and plant ecologist widely regarded as one of the most influential scientists in the study of eastern North American forests. Shown from the shoulders up against a soft, neutral gradient background, Braun appears in her later years with a calm, intelligent gaze directed straight at the viewer. Her white hair is neatly styled and swept back from her face, and she wears delicate round wire-rimmed glasses. A gentle, knowing half-smile softens her expression, conveying quiet authority, warmth, and scholarly poise. She is dressed in a light-colored, pleated blouse with a gathered neckline and a prominent dark floral brooch pinned at the center of her chest; the visible sleeve features subtle decorative patterning. The tight, centered composition focuses entirely on her face and upper torso, creating an intimate and dignified mood that emphasizes intellect and dignity over ornamentation.

I know hard to believe but if you do the common garden experiment and measure carefully, squid and trees are in fact different.

Similar comparison I like. Ty1 vs Ty3 long terminal repeat transposable elements. Both long, both reverse transcription, blah blah same same right? That is if you ignore the 1.8 BILLION years divergence. But y'know other stuff that diverged are pretty similar, right? Like pine trees and giant squid?

Sunblock in my eyes during my run today and was reminded of the early morning run years ago when I couldn’t understand why the sweat was burning my eyes so much… only to have my headlamp fall apart in my hands as I took it off, spilling out corroded batteries that had been leaking into my eyes.

Quick and Meaningless Data Collection Help me collect some data to use for student examples! The questions on geographic region and gender will only be used for subsetting the data, not for student analysis. No questions are required -…

I NEED HELP!

Please take this quick, meaningless 19 question survey so I can get data for my students to learn stats!

I did a similar version a few months ago but missed an important question type. Even if you did the old one, please do it again!

@ericjones-us.bsky.social You're running for Congress in a district that hosts one of the country's best biology focused universities (UCD) - I'd love to hear your plans for how you're going to fight for better investment in higher education at the federal level
