Sharing some #opinionsaboutsubtitles today because it's really interesting to see what people want, and what they aren't getting. In some cases it may be different opinions about quality, but in many cases it's clearly exhibitors/distributors cheaping out... #bettersubtitlesplease

Yeah that would be infuriating, I watch everything with subs/closed caption because of audio processing issues, if you fail to subtitle stuff because it’s in the same language as the subs I’m gonna shank someone.

i rarely believe in paying for anything that isn't a physical object just on the basis that rules are for fools, but one of the few places i have an actual reason for it is the subtitle thing

streaming services all think "proper subtitle timing" is some kind of tax they can avoid

What they really need to do to get me back into the theater is have showings with subtitles on all films so I can hear what the actors are saying.

Yeah! The sensory stimuli of just watching and listening to a show or movie for the first time maxes out my brain's processing ability. It's gotten easier since I started watching everything with subtitles on, too

Shows that subtitle options and subtitle quality *do* matter... #bettersubtitlesplease

...their some films from Sam Raimi, Clive Barker, Wes Craven, Tobe Hooper and others they've done. One of my favorites is the Street Fighter collection they did, for one simple reason: Unlike most martial arts films releases that only do translated subtitles or dubtitles (the latter is worse)...

In today's installment of why you need a human checking your #translation, any guesses what word this is supposed to be? (hint: say it outloud.) #genealogy #ancestry
"et pous"

A general run down of what translating/localizing a videogame is (in most big agencies)

1. Have strings with no context and ID with numbers.

2. Have a query sheet to ask question that can be ignored.

3. The strings are scrambled and not in order.

4. No visuals (images, videos or game)

Obituary: Tony Kirkhope For three decades Tony Kirkhope rode the tiger of independent film distribution, bringing films from all over the world to Britain and finding audiences for them.

I'd look for information on Tony Kirkhope, whose Wikipedia page needs filling out but who led The Other Cinema for at least part of its history. Some archival material for The Other Cinema is held at Goldsmiths University special collections in London. www.independent.co.uk/news/people/...
