If a word becomes commonly used outside of government, and government does not have an alternative, it may be added to the official lexicon, assuming it meets the various standards for the language.

However, most speakers don’t speak the official version and other words find their way in all the time. The structure of those words might change to allow them to fit with the rules of Kalanifa, however, not everyone is stringent about following that.

The “official” version is largely impacted by what other languages those in government speak. Changes or additions have to be agreed and disseminated.

Most speakers of Kalanifa do so as their second language. However, there’s quite a lot of other native fae languages so it’s difficult to go through everything that impacts on the way it is spoken.

Nothing in the Weight of Magic today, so we’re off to Cassie’s story (The Last Changer), and an old document that plays a big part in linking the two.

For reference, The Weight of Magic (George’s story) is set in 1803.

Asking to DM on the first few posts is pretty much a guarantee they’ll never open up.

Very few people make it into my DMs. I need confidence that they are a genuine actor in the community, and that the DM is for a clear purpose. Even then, trying to sell to me in DMs would be an instant block.

Uh, anthropomorphic,” she added as she saw Chip roll towards a spidertank on display. “Clarification: anthropomorphic models are not hot right now, but I have a few in storage.” “Any, uh—” She looked down at the notes in her compad as the automaton loomed closer, clamps snapping helpfully. Six’s requirements were extensive, and so specifically written she struggled to parse them. “Well, this?” “Query: may I?” “Go ahead.” Chip took her compad in an exactly measured grip. With a click and a slither, its three eyes detached from its sensor suite, extending towards the screen like greasy tentacles, dripping with lubricant. Three shutters whirred, snapping shut, then widening again. The thin membrane of a speaker vibrated. “Clarification: these are the exact specifications for an Andromeda Solutions Model S.” “Is that an issue?” “Noncommittal statement: I am not authorized to deal in copyrighted designs. Redirection: if you are looking for companion models, I have a modded Artemisia chassis in stock, compatible with the ALRI™ system, and only gently used.”

Yana goes shopping for robot parts. She doesn't find what she's looking for, but she does learn her friend Six is a bit of a collector's item.

Last time we used FedEx for work stuff, they sent it on a massive detour via Dubai…for some reason? It was very out of the way.

However, I am currently shipping a violin to the US with them because even if it takes forever, I at least have faith it won’t arrive in a thousand pieces.

Yeah. Poor Alvath holds a *lot* of guilt over this.

Hi. I’m afraid due to recent issues, my DMs are currently only open to people I have already built a good rapport with (meaning a history of sincere interactions beyond just one or two posts).

Glaucus and Mòrag are leading the efforts to hunt and exterminate the Changers, though for different reasons. Donald is Glaucus’ General, and the main one we see carrying out his orders.

In the whole story? Quite a few. Main ones are George, Charlie, Will, Alvath, Mòrag, Glaucus, and Donald (plus a few minor side characters)

George (main POV) is trying to help young Charlie (being hunted), and gets caught up in Will’s (also being hunted) plan to steal magic from Alvath.

The backdrop of all this is the Killings (where all the Changers are being hunted down and exterminated). They want Alvath’s magic to fight back with, because it can kill anything, and is effectively impossible to kill in return.
They don’t understand that Alvath has no control over *who* it kills.
