#GodsOfAtalantis:

For Mireia, it depends on when you ask her.

Book 1 Mireia is determined not to have a boring life and end up forgotten. Retirement? Maybe one day, as long as she's had her adventures & done something memorable. A big part of why she's upset about being 🧵1/7

#GodsOfAtalantis:
Mireia wants an adventure, but in her mind an "adventure" means traveling to new lands, sailing the sea, fighting in battles, etc.

Becoming the Sea Mother is certainly an adventure, but she doesn't see it that way - she sees it as a disruption in her life, 🧵1/9

In #GodsOfAtalantis, how Jasana's cult is perceived by the public varies a lot.

At first, they're barely on the radar of most people, but they soon start to gather more followers & make themselves known. The majority of the public always views them as blasphemous kooks, 1/4

2/5 want to include that too.

#GodsOfAtalantis is obviously not about Christianity, but it IS very much about religion & the stories that come with it. How narratives & beliefs can give strength & cohesion to a society, and how they can also be wielded by selfish people to become a terrible weapon.

Kena couldn't choose a favorite plant, he loves them all! 😂 But maybe the nemaansoet, aka an ancient ancestor of the Azores Bellflower.

He also loves lilies because they remind him of Mireia.

Mireia's favorite is lilies, because Kena gives them to her. 🥰

Nope, none!

I don't think I'll ever write a villain who knows they're evil & loves it; closest I get is someone who doesn't believe in good/evil & doesn't care.

In #GodsOfAtalantis, the villains all legitimately believe they're doing what's best for Atalantis & the world. 1/2

Kena is pretty good at hiding his trauma most of the time, but it's still definitely there 😢

#GodsOfAtalantis:

Mireia is a terrible judge of character. TERRIBLE. 🤣

This mostly comes from her being the baby girl of a big, safe family, in a small town where she knows everyone, in a region of Atalantis where patriarchy is a bit more prevalent. Also she's 13yo 😂

For Mireia, *this* exact moment.

This is shortly after she gets chosen as the Sea Mother instead of Jasana. Jasana breaks into her room to confront her & takes a terrible oath.

Mireia is hit with a big case of YOLO (even though she *doesn't* OLO, allegedly 😂) & realizes all this time-wasting the author made her do is silly.

Go get ya boy bb girl ❤️

#GodsOfAtalantis:

Mireia is tempted a few times to turn away from being the Sea Mother, but she never takes the opportunity. She doesn't want to be the Sea Mother, but at the same time she's too stubborn to take the easy way out, & she has an odd sense of duty to something 🧵1/5

Super late to Monday #snippetshare 😅

This is one of my favorite visual moments from #GodsOfAtalantis Book 1!

Mireia's in an ancient labyrinth & finds an enormous pitch dark chamber. When she hits a gong, the lights come on, and this is what she sees...

Another great question 😂

#GodsOfAtalantis:

Mireia would be terrible at any tedious desk job. She has zero patience & hates having to follow rules. First time some idiot manager tried to boss her around she would tell them they're an idiot and get fired 😂

Kena's harder... 🧵1/5

I've got 2! The moments Mireia & Kena accept the call to become candidates for the new gods (though Kena doesn't know yet that's what he's agreeing to).

Mireia is being put through her 1st test to see if she's worthy. Kena meets a guy who suspects he's special 😁

Atlantis mentioned! 🤣

Na'aqal in my series #GodsOfAtalantis is like 80% a priori, because I chose the grammar structure & made up a lot of vocab based on pure vibes.

However it is partly a posteriori because while developing it I dove into ancient Egyptian & Mayan languages...🧵1/3

Both Mireia & Kena are good with animals! Mireia doesn't keep any pets but she's always gentle with animals, & big surprise but she has a natural way with fish 😂

Kena of course loves animals & would collect dozens of pets if he could. He's got his phoenix🧵1/6

With all my religious themes you'd think I'd have at least one instance of this word, but nope! Synonym it is!

#AntagonistApril 2

In #GodsOfAtalantis, a cult forms around Jasana of people who believe she is the true Sea Mother, not Mireia. They call themselves the Cult of the True Sea Mother... pretty straightforward 😅

For context, "cults" on Atalantis are just religious sects devoted to specific gods,🧵1/4

#GodsOfAtalantis begins in Habuuket, a tiny fishing village on the Eastern Coast of Atalantis. It's situated on a bunch of cliffs overlooking Pavanta Bay. (See pic for my inspo of the landscape)

This is Mireia's hometown 🥰

Mireia feels like a fool on multiple occasions, but the most significant is just generally as she gets older & looks back on some of her past actions with horrible cringe... particularly her initial treatment of Kena (she's an asshole lol) and her admiration🧵1/7

Ooh love this card!! 😍

My #GodsOfAtalantis trilogy has uhhh... *counts* between 4-11 important antagonists, depending on how you define "important" 😅

If Toctha counts as an antagonist, then 12.

Yay, hope I can keep up this month! 😅

Hi I'm Emily and my conlang is Na'aqal, the language spoken by the people in my upcoming book #GodsOfAtalantis.

"Atalantis" is my version of Atlantis, & "Na'aqal" is also the name of the native Atalanteans. Everyone on the island speaks it!

Well, definitely NOT Icozoue 🤣

Depends on how you define "cheerful" I guess? My sweetest side character is Aro, Mireia's older sister, who is just the nicest cinnamon roll. There's also a priest named Ba'oti who gives some Uncle Iroh energy. 🧵1/3

Quote in yellow text on a purple and blue background that looks wavy like water:
"Mireia clenched her fists. “You might like the idea of having everything handed to you, but I don’t want that. I want to choose who I am, and who I love. I want the people I love to love me back because I’m someone worth loving, not because it’s what’s ‘meant’ to happen. If you can’t forge those paths for yourself, then what good are they? How can anything mean anything at all if it’s just part of some inevitable plot that’s been laid out ahead of time? If you ask me, anyone who waits around for fate to decide their life for them has already given up on being alive.”"
