The night air is pleasantly warm and just slightly humid and heady with the scents of lilac and viburnum and recent rain. Pretty obnoxiously beautiful out there.

I can do without most things but I am buying Bustelo in bulk these days. I also have a stash of a discontinued shade of MAC lipstick.

I don't really know what the moral of this story is, but it feels kinda routine that professionals will just not even attempt due diligence and try to rob you of your sanity and money instead of just fixing the stupid routine things their entire job is to fix. The scam economy cannot be overstated.

Anyway, I just experienced the same thing re: a plumbing situation that has been an issue for 3 YEARS that we were told must be something wrong on our end. We switched management companies and a contractor doing a routine inspection diagnosed and fixed the problem like nbd. 2/

Ages ago I went through almost all the prestige healthcare systems in Chicago trying to figure out what was wrong with me and when my GP suggested it was all in my head I got a new Dr. who did a full blood work up as part of routine intake and called me at work to tell me I had pernicious anemia. 1/

The internet is broken so they can't Google to find out more information and they get second-hand embarrassment from old people so they just blissfully invent explanations for why things are the way they are, usually ending in "-pilled" or "-brained."

Love Bluesky but the fact that the average user is in their 30s means I log on every afternoon to find 10 people in their 30s arguing about the history/root cause of a problem that predates their awareness of the world relying on nothing but conjecture and contemporary framework.

I suppose I do kind of think that unless it is your job like David Attenborough or whoever protects the plovers, staking out wildlife takes the magic out of the encounter. It should be a little treat you get for being observant of the world around you and trusted by its inhabitants.

The vibes were off all day to the extent that I began to feel cursed until I caught a glimpse of a flying squirrel out of the corner of my eye and as I did, its little magic carpet body came swooping toward me and passed directly over my head and it felt like a kind of blessing.

Freakishly Beautiful Weather season has arrived on Chicago's North Shore. Mediterranean blue skies and water, riot of technicolor flora and foliage, butterflies and bumble bees, bright sun, cool breeze, low humidity, comfortable temps. Like living in a photo-shopped travel brochure.

Black celluloid comb with an elaborate decorative head molded like leafy vines. Set with black faceted stones.

#TheVictorianBookoftheDead A black celluloid comb set with what the museum says is jet (French jet, perhaps) c. 1910. This might have been worn for mourning, although there is no definite provenance and black was, of course, a fashionable color.

Fashion designer Paul Poiret was born #OnThisDay in 1879. He designed this 1926 silver and gold sequin 'Reine Reflects' gown with modesty infills and silver gauze on the bodice, and a trained hem edged in velvet. The model wears a similar style. Sold by Kerry Taylor Auctions. #fashionhistory

Paul Poiret was born on this day in 1879. He would become a genius of dress construction, the example here one of origami-like structure. The gold lamé shawl style coat is called Pré Catalan after a fashionable eatery in the Bois de Boulogne, 1918 @metmuseum.org #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

Was feeling very poorly yesterday and was left to sleep until noon today (😱) during which time I think I had fever dreams. People were out recording a migratory Big Bird bathing and nesting on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Idk where you are, but there are totally multifamily homes in the Metro East burbs. Even some of those 1950s neighborhoods have them. People don't want new ones in *their* neighborhoods for the same reasons people all over the country don't want them, reasons that should not be indulged.

Yep. I think my little brother managed to get the whole team's autographs on his various baseballs and gloves.

The backless dress became one of the signature style of the #1930s, redirecting the gaze. Gowns of the period are often more decorative at the back than they are at the front, a case in point this c1933 dress by Augusta Bernard @philamuseum.bsky.social #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

You have to understand that here in the US lifesaving medical care is indeed the stuff of fantasy for a lot of people.
