Nice.
Gotta go for the Prime Rib w/ a side of au gratin potatoes. And either Brussel Sprouts or cauliflower, depending upon how they're prepared.
This has been happening on and off for almost a week now!
It's the most technically magnificent (and narratively progressive) early Talkie I've seen. If you can deal emotionally w/ a very brutal war film, I highly recommend it.
Lew Ayres kisses the hand of Suzanne (Yola d'Avril), a French girl who's more interested in the bread and a salami he brought as gifts.

It's actually three women, but this is pretty much accurate for 7-8 minutes of the film.
They'll be thrilled for approximately 5 of the film's 133 minutes.
A poster for ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT (1930), which leads you to believe Yola d'Avril has more than five minutes of screen time.

Lewis Milestone's groundbreaking anti-war film won Oscars for Outstanding Production and Best Director.
Note the prominence in the film's marketing of French actress Yola d'Avril, who's only in one scene but makes a lasting impression. #FilmSky

Yike. And conventions are incubators.
Love that! My mother used to bring me to comic conventions in NYC when I was a pre-teen.
I didn't start going to conventions until the early '80s and, even by then, organizations like Creation had begun to change the vibe.
I am so jealous. What an amazing experience that must have been.
And happy birthday to Her Majesty Elaine May!
