And it's free! 🎉

First year I've felt like reporting information to my government science funding agency is potentially... risky. I'll probably still report, now that I have the protections of tenure, but it makes me sad for both science and the study of science.

My bluesky feed is mostly bad news these days, but every so often I see a post that makes me cheer. Congrats on the promotion Jeannette!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Also, @nytimes.com, Con Hall is not normally reserved just for graduations. I teach my 2000-student course on Biodiversity and Adaptation there. Many other intro science courses, like physics, are taught there too.
Neat story on Canada's brain gain, but @nytimes.com should correct a mistake. @timothysnyder.bsky.social's new history course, cool as it sounds, will NOT be U of T's largest ever. I teach intro bio to 2000 students every fall, going back years. @uoft.bsky.social

"We are speaking on behalf of hundreds of NIH staff who are standing up together to say: WE DISSENT.
I am so scared about doing this but I am trying to be brave for my kids because it's only gonna get harder to speak up."
Thank you to Dr. Jenna Norton and NIH scientists for your courage!
A very powerful message from NIH staff
I signed, as did alums from graduating classes of every single year from 1950 to 2025
It is only a "pivot penalty" if citations measure the value of the pivot. Citations are, at best, a deeply imperfect measure of the worth of the work to the field, or to the scholar who pivots
