Why work on differences between homology and analogy? Bc protein structure search is super popular. We've always wondered whether some structure matches arise from convergent evolution. Now we know the answer – a resounding yes! This has major implications for the use of protein structure search.
🧪🧬🖥️ new paper: Tandem Repeats Provide Evidence for Convergent Evolution to Similar Protein Structures (doi.org/10.1093/gbe/...). You can also see the video explainer here: wrightlabscience.com/publications
We'd love to be included!

Post it with text: Aidan was awarded grant funding by the R Consortium's Infrastructure Steering Committee. This award will fund critical work to the Biostrings package for R, one of the foundational packages in the R bioinformatics community. This work will begin in June and take place over a year. By the end, he's expected to be the primary maintainer of Biostrings. Congrats Aidan!
One of the lab members was awarded funding to enhance and maintain #R #Biostrings. We're looking forward to seeing what he can do for the #bioinformatics community.
