#ProjectHailMary was worth every penny in IMAX.
We didn't have babysitting for our 7 year old, so our whole family went. Her picture after the movie says it all. A win for puppets everywhere!

Thanks to @kkdumez.bsky.social @bethallisonbarr.bsky.social and @sheilagregoire.bsky.social for paving the way for these newer books to exist. I am so grateful for resources that engage our critical thinking skills and increase our empathy.
My latest review from @erbks.bsky.social on The Myth of Good Christian Parenting by @kkramermcginnis.bsky.social and @mburtwrites.bsky.social
"Myth is a reminder for all of us that there are no formulas for great outcomes in this life."

The study points to using libraries and visiting museums as bringing these enormous brain health benefits ... who would have thought? Well, librarians and museum folk for a start ... www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

Excited to review The Myth of Good Christian Parenting by @mburtwrites.bsky.social and @kkramermcginnis.bsky.social for @erbks.bsky.social.
I was adjacent to this world, but not steeped in. The stories & research could have been written by so many people close to me.
This book is excellent work.
Merry Christmas!
My shelves are overflowing with books. My closet can't fit any more clothes, most of which I haven't worn in years. My attic is filled to the brim.
All of the Black Friday shopping deals remind me that I'm drowning in stuff. Are you?

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.
For the past two years, my school has received a grant for family and community literacy. I have been able to provide hundreds of culturally sustaining books and literacy events in a book desert.
That grant was canceled by the federal government this week.

Libraries provide more than books. Your local library may offer museum passes or discounted admission to recreational activities.
Whether they're blaming vaccines and Tylenol, or selling dubious "remedies," what they're really doing is promoting the perception that families (and especially mothers) can prevent and treat Autism. And thus also the perception that people with Autism and their families don't need social support.
Some people #flinch away.
"It's not nice," they say.
"It can't be that bad," they say.
"It doesn't impact me," they say.
"Someone else will fix it," they say.
To me, it's not so far away
The day
When the tide of destruction
Sweeps them too, away

Here are four ways anyone can support and help their local library:
• Get a library card ⭐️
• Use your library card 🌟
•Visit the library 💫
•Tell everyone to get a library card and support their local library ✨
Comparative suffering never makes it better.
Nothing sums up America under Republican rule like turning a place of history and strength into a strip mall food court.
I miss the old brand #CDC
Them: “Cities are all rotting hellscapes!”
Cities:
“It's not just they have these personal Christian beliefs about the role of women in the family. It's that they want to enforce those for everybody.”

Searing from the Las Vegas Sun:
"For decades, the Republican Party has insisted that it is the defender of innocent life. Yet after those lives draw their first breath, that supposed moral clarity collapses. In the womb, they are props in a morality play. Once born, they are costs to be contained."
This is so true. Whenever I ask people about the books that really changed their lives, almost always, it's a children's book they remember. They're the ones that make the deepest impact and stay with us forever. That's why I think children's books are the most important books of all!
My latest for @erbks.bsky.social
"Many poems... touch on the universal idea that as children we must use whatever is at our disposal to get our needs met, but as adults we can gently lay down those relationships, harmful thoughts, and triggered reactions that we are learning to outgrow."
Dear @stephencolbert.bsky.social,
Thanks for all the years of speaking truth to power & finding the funny in fascism.

Your Prime Day reminder that half of Amazon warehouse workers struggle with food & housing costs.
A third have had to rely on government assistance like SNAP — which is about to get cut.
If Bezos can spend $50M on a wedding, Amazon can afford to treat its workers with dignity.
"Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees, to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the orphan." -Isaiah 10:1-2
