@andycrow.bsky.social and I lead the brave Indian freedom fighters to defeat in last night's Indian Mutiny #SharpPractice game (ok mainly my fault rolling high on every Bad Things Happen roll) #SpreadTheLard

They are very nice. Some of the best 3d sculpts I've seen (with a great paint job too!)
Yesterday saw an overdue return of O Group to the table. We played (in 6mm) the first scenario from the Normandy book; 6th Royal Scottish Fusiliers (Ben and I) were to assault St Manvieu in the early stages of Op Epsom against the 26th PzGrenadiers (@andycrow.bsky.social). #spreadthelard #wargaming
Yes, it was a good back and forth game. We don't play O Group enough, so the first few turns are always getting to grips with the nuances of the rules, but it had some great moments! All credit to Rob for his great work with the terrain and figures.
Normandy O Group today against Ben and Rob, using Rob's lovely #6mm setup. The 6th Royal Scots Fusiliers faced a stern fight to break into St Manvieu, but a third assault on the church finally broke the back of the German's resistance #SpreadTheLard
More numbers would certainly have helped, but surely the lack of an effective command and control system, like the Dowding system, would have reduced their effectiveness?
It's a great book and an important franco-centric perspective. The only bit I pulled a face at was his contention that it could all have been different, if only the RAF had sent all their fighter aircraft to France.
"From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, 'Look at that, you son of a bitch.'"

A portrait of every being who has ever been alive, their bones and ashes, and their distant, alien descendants who still populate the world
The timing of this launch couldn't be better to remind us of how small and precious this planet is
I've not read it yet, but @kabinettskriege.bsky.social's Infatry In Battle may be what you're after? www.helion.co.uk/military-his...
An excellent book. Enjoy!
Plans for the USMC to seize Khragy Island don't make any sense to me.

YouTube has removed "sort by date" in search results. Here's why that's "platform enshittification" (© @doctorow.pluralistic.net) the recurring process of
1. Lock in users with good service
2. Exploit your monopoly for advert £$€
3. Chase profit so hard that your platform becomes bad for everyone

Exciting news. Looking forward to seeing a pre-order option! :)
First volume is just Normandy I think.
Of course there is @reassesshistory.bsky.social's long anticipated account of 53rd Welsh, hopefully coming out this year.
I saw that Jack Diddens did a book about 51st Highland Division in Pheasant, but it's long out of print. When I eventually make a trip to the Overloon museum, I will have to make an investment in those tomes you recommend!
I've struggled to find a single good account of it, beyond Wikipedia. Lots of divisional history browsing needed yesterday to put the lines of advance together!
Well spotted!
A composite map of the southern Netherlands, showing an approximate front line of 21st Army Group in October 1944, with divisonal objectives for Operation Pheasant.
Sometimes if you have want to get your head round something, you just have to get a map out. (why yes, I have spent most of my evening doing this.) #WW2
Dakka dakka dakka dakka!
Nice to see some BTH at a lardy day!

Next month I've somehow found myself part of this insanity.
It means me doing 492 rope climbs in 22 hours.
I'm old and have only three fully functioning limbs ...
It would be most kind if you'd donate even a quid towards this for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Thanks.

You could have saved yourself a lot of time and effort by just selling a kidney.
