This is a well-documented pattern in medical research and reflects systemic gender bias in pain assessment and treatment.👇

@bdsc.bsky.social celebrating its 40th anniversary this year ! 🎉🥳

Final note, last week we took the proofs out to celebrate 😂
Gracias Nica! 😁
Gracias! 😁
Finally, thanks to my students Luis Eduardo Sánchez and @mbarrerav.bsky.social for all the hard work and to our collaborators @microeos.bsky.social, Philippe Bun and Horacio Merchant for their expertise and contributions!
Oh, and the paper came out on the day of my 6th anniversary as a PI 🥹 Amazing!
Go have a look and share! I might be biased but our videos are really cool, I could stare at them for hours! 😍 Here's one of my favorites: look how the tracheal trunks twist and stretch along with the epidermal movements! (3/4)
Overall, we show that as morphogenetic movements take place, tracheal trunks stay straight by adhering to the epidermis. This interaction allows trunks to reposition dorsally, and it prevents their deformation as dorsal branches outgrow distally. (2/4)
Yay! Our paper is now out @emboreports.org! I posted about it a while back (tinyurl.com/yc7td3px) but the work really improved thanks to the wonderful feedback from three anonymous reviewers 🙏 (1/4)
I finally had some time to improve my poster about staging Drosophila embryos in collaboration with @stramerlab.bsky.social and we would like to share this with the community! You can find it here or at a higher resolution on my portfolio: www.behance.net/gallery/2458...

The image shows the hourglass shape of the length of the day and night over the 365 days in 2025. Diagonal bands indicate when the Moon was up in the night sky.
Happy new year! My all sky camera imaged the sky every 15 seconds and this picture shows what happened in the sky in 2025. It shows the length of the night and day with the hourglass shape, the monthly lunar cycle with the diagonal bands, the elevation of the Sun at local noon, and lots of clouds.
A bit late but a paper from our lab has been published!
Human fingertip regeneration is a fact, it happens in children and adults (not only in children as it has been long believed). We describe here the regenerative phases and analyse the proteome of wound exudates.

Our updated preprint is now out! The feedback from @reviewcommons.org was fantastic, we are very grateful to our reviewers for their suggestions. The last figure (plus other things) is product of this feedback and we're certain every point strengthened our work! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Pleased to say that Jonas Hartmann (bs-less) and I have finally released DySTrack (“diss track”) - Dynamic Sample Tracking.
It’s a Python-based, modular tool that brings smart microscopy to everyday imaging on commercial systems.

If you or your trainees are just getting started with image analysis of cells & are #CellProfiler -curious, here is a fairly thorough walk-through demo I did recently. Loading files, extracting metadata (fun with Regex!), identifying objects, measuring, filtering, QC, exporting:

Thanks to my colleague @ifetter.bsky.social I've got to learn so much about ants and their awesome biology. Just see how beautiful ant ovaries are! Congrats on this work, the first one of many to come :D
The ECM is no longer in the back seat when it comes to development. Check out our special issue "Dynamics of the extracellular matrix in development, cell physiology and disease" with 8 selected articles to learn more: A 🧵 www.sciencedirect.com/special-issu...
💭Transitioning to independence isn’t only a Latinx concern!
One key takeaway from our workshop at ICDB in Puerto Rico: this is a shared challenge across the field. @socdevbio.bsky.social
Proud of the diversity — celebrating Latinx representation, gender balance, and early career voices in Dev Bio!
Tissue 'tectonic' collision is detrimental, but flies found two distinct solutions! Gratifying and grateful to be included in this collective effort, w/ Steffen Lemke, to crack the (or 'a') code of #cephalicfurrow, now out in @nature.com, all with @paveltomancak.bsky.social at the helm. (1/9)
Open rank faculty search in my department. Please re-post!
I have written another #preLight post, featuring the first work from the Boukhatmi lab. Always fun to read a #fly paper, especially with #microscopy too! Check it out if you like injury repair and tissue/ECM remodeling.

*sigh* I was today years old when I learnt that Schrödinger sexually abused young girls he was tutoring
The history of science (as told in classrooms & lecture halls) ought to be a hell of a lot more diverse and critical

FlyBase needs your help! We ask that European labs continue to contribute to Cambridge, UK FlyBase, whereas US and other non-European labs can contribute to US FlyBase. For more information and how to donate: wiki.flybase.org/wiki/FlyBase...
Total disaster for the #drosophila community if flybase disappears
