A freshly opened Rowan bud with the case of a tiny caterpillar
Is it possible to identify this Coleophora case? I think that there are only about five species that feed on rowan.

That's fascinating
I have seen many insects impaled on spiky plants - usually after bad weather and I have always assumed it was accidental
Impaled on grass seems strange
My suspicion would be a bird storing food
Thank you very much. Unfortunately it flew off just after this photo was taken. So, I will probably never know for certain
