Methane pollution from US oil and gas infrastructure causes more climate change than the entire economies of all but seven nations on earth.
(This is with methane's climate impacts conservatively evaluated over a 100-year time frame. Evaluated over shorter time frames, methane's impacts are worse.)

China Gas Sector Lobbies for More Power Plants to Boost Demand by Bloomberg|Bloomberg News | Tuesday, June 10, 2025 | 2:30 AM EST China Gas Sector Lobbies for More Power Plants to Boost Demand China's natural gas producers are lobbying Beijing to increase the number of power plants that run on the fuel, in a bid to help prop up faltering demand. Image by zhang meng via iStock China’s natural gas producers are lobbying Beijing to increase the number of power plants that run on the fuel, in a bid to help prop up faltering demand. The power sector - which currently accounts for 18 percent of China’s gas consumption - is viewed by the industry as a key engine of growth, according to people involved in advising on energy policy. Under the sector’s latest proposal, China would build nearly 70 gigawatts of new gas-fired capacity by 2030, an almost 50 percent increase from 2025’s estimated level, they said, asking not to be named as the plan is not public.
The idea *suppliers* of fossil fuels are neutral meeters-of-demand remains one of the worst lies
Their job is not just digging up fossil fuels: their job is bullying, pushing, fighting, lying and lobbying to ensure fossil fuels get burned as much as possible

Ten years on, the Paris Agreement is working—just not fast enough. Our new report tracks 22 ways it’s changing the world: uniting countries behind 1.5°C and net zero, and cutting projected 2100 warming by ~1°C (≈3.6°C → ≈2.7°C).

River or sankey diagram showing the allocation of profits from global oil and gas companies to quantiles of the US wealth size distribution via financial system intermediaries, such as asset managers, and categories of ultimate beneficiaries, such as business owners, pension funds and shareholders in listed companies. The scale is hundreds of billions of US dollars, and ultimately 50.4% of profits reaching the US personal wealth distribution go to the richest 1% of households.

We all know the 2022 energy price shock fueled the cost of living crisis. It also caused a profit bonanza for the very rich. We show the US reaped the largest profits ($377bn) of any country. 50% went to the richest 1%, only 1% to the bottom 50%. A🧵 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

The 2025 edition of the #ProductionGapReport by @sei.org et al. is out now! As Christiana Figueres eloquently put in the foreword: The clarity from the #ICJ Advisory Opinion that fossil fuel production and exploration could violate international law must translate into action as we head for #COP30.

A quote next to her photo reads, "Let this report be both a warning and a guide. What we need now is courage and solidarity to move forward at great speed with the just transition." At the bottom reads, "For more information, visit productiongap.org. Next to that are logos of the organizations that produced the report: Stockholm Environment Institute, International Institute for Sustainable Development and Climate Analytics.
To make up for lost ground and steer the world toward a Paris Agreement-aligned track, we must rapidly and steeply wind down #FossilFuel production & use to the lowest levels possible.
🚨 BREAKING: Governments plan to produce over 2x the amount of fossil fuels in 2030 than would be consistent with limiting warming to 1.5°C, says the new #ProductionGap Report.
