Researchers uncover key players in tissue regeneration The STK38–YAP1 switch may be a general mechanism for mature cells to regain regenerative properties across many organs.

How do tissues regenerate after injury or disease? J. Mills, Y. Zeng et al found new players that mediate the process. @pnas.org @bcmhouston.bsky.social #BCMDeptMedicine #BCMPostDoc #Paligenosis blogs.bcm.edu/2026/04/02/f...

Cathartocytosis: Jettisoning of cellular material during reprogramming of differentiated cells Cellular plasticity, which involves massive changes to a cell’s architecture and organellar organization, can be harnessed following injury to repair damaged tissue. Brown et al. describe cathartocytosis, a process that large, differentiated cells can use to rapidly downscale their cellular machinery.

Yongji Zeng at #DDW2025 in the CMG abstract plenary talking about #Hippo in #paligenosis.

A noncanonical Hippo kinase, STK38, degrades YAP1 at homeostasis.

Autophagy in stage 1 degrades STK38 to activate YAP1 for metaplasia and proliferation (stages 2 and 3).

New paper out! We looked into what our favorite beneficial microbe does to gut hormones. We found L. reuteri regulates many gut hormones like PYY and GIP but also vasopressin, which we didn't know was made in the gut. Check it out!
