Some free biscuits from a bakery in Rawalpindi, Pakistan
Our daughter is just back from Pakistan. Near where her husbands family live is a bakery. It's a very good bakery. At the end of each day any unsold biscuits are placed outside the shop. Anyone who wants them can help themselves. The biscuits are good!

Day 21- A Song With Syncopation
Stevie Wonder - Living For The City
Stevie Wonder often used a syncopated rhythm to drive the funk. This is a great example.

These incredible Buff Tip Moths blend in so well with branches that you might mistake them for sticks. Nature's masters of disguise are truly fascinating!
This painting, titled "L'escalier" (The Staircase), was created by French painter Marc Chalmé, known for his mastery of shadow and light, often compared to Vermeer. His work captures "still light" in landscapes, still lifes, and scenes like this.

Somewhat later than I'd intended (I've been clearing out my Google account storage!), here's our traditional start to #SundayMorning: this is "Sunday Morning, Farringdon Road" by Cecil Osborne from 1929. It is in the collection at Brighton & Hove Museums #CecilOsborne #EastLondonGroup
Of course it's of no consequence but now I'm wondering what an 'accountable albatross' would be. Could it be a rather trendy gastro pub, or perhaps a later day mythical creature, in a fantasy novel, attoning for the misfortune it's kind has brought?
It is a sunny #SaturdayMorning here in our part of the world so I'm very thankful for that. As is my wont each week, here's our traditional start to the day & week-end: "Interior" by Brynhild Parker from 1930: it just seems to fit the moment! #BrynhildParker #EastLondonGroup
Erasmus Darwin is portrayed as a spectator, seated front left, in Wright of Derby’s most famous painting: An Experiment 1768. With profile largely in shadow, he is watching the experiment intently. Mass rock, along the Glen Road, Mocollop, Co Waterford.
At Mocollop, with its derelict castle & disused church, near Ballyduff, Co Waterford, if you go up the Glen Road you pass the mass rock. It's quite moving to think of the religious persecution of the penal times in Ireland. This is where local catholics observed their religion, out in the open.

Leeds Central Library is well worth a visit for its interior alone. It was constructed between 1878 and 1884 to a design by local architect George Corson, it officially opened on 17 April 1884 as the Leeds Municipal Offices. housing administrative departments for gas,

Physician May Chinn was born 130 years ago today. In 1926 she was the 1st Black woman to graduate from Bellevue, but then spent 14 years looking for a hospital that would allow her full practicing privileges on account of her race, practicing privately until she found a cancer research position.

They say that irony is dead. But this must surely be peak dead irony!
What would JD consider to be safer talking points for the pope: tennis; what he did on his holidays; Tolkien; how not to support genocide, or perhaps how oil companies are cashing in on war and environmental devistation?

A black-and-white studio portrait of Bessie Smith (1894–1937), the legendary Black blues singer known as the “Empress of the Blues” and one of the most influential vocalists in American music history. In this full-length, dynamic image, she stands confidently in the center of the frame, arms gracefully outstretched in a theatrical pose of joyful expression. She wears a shimmering, light-colored 1920s flapper-style gown covered in intricate beadwork, fringe, and floral appliqués at the waist, with a sheer overskirt and dark heeled boots. Her short dark hair is neatly styled, and her face is lit with a radiant, open-mouthed smile that radiates power, charisma, and delight. The dark, softly draped studio backdrop and dramatic lighting emphasize her commanding stage presence.
