Bushtits! One of the smallest songbirds in the US. They're brown and grey, with eyes that are black (male) or yellow (female). Bushtits constantly on the move, hopping to the next branch. Using moss, grass, and spiderwebs, they build hanging nests that look like a dirty sock.

Batch 6 concludes my first Everett neon expedition, which took place in January of 2026. I returned to Everett to shoot neon again once in February and twice in March, and I believe I've now photographed all notable neon in this city. Those photos will be posted later.

The Sora, or Carolina Rail, forages for food in shallow wetlands, and is about the size of a robin. Rails are slender, to walk through marsh grasses - origin of the phrase "thin as a rail".

Northern pintail ducks, female or non-breeding. They are dabbing ducks, meaning that they will plunge their heads into the water, butts in the air, to forage for food below the surface.

Juanita Bay Park, Kirkland. One of three "lifers" I saw that day.
