A #Swift Community Set of 10 nest boxes and a 240V call system has been donated to Easton Primary School near Woodbridge, Suffolk. The Swift boxes were made by the Street Forge Workshop in Eye and kindly donated to the project by a donor. #SuffolkBirding @suffolkbirdgroup.bsky.social
8 #Swift nest boxes and a 240V call system has been donated to The Duke of Marlborough pub in Somersham, #Suffolk for them to install there, adjacent to an existing colony. We know that adding Swift nesting space boosts their local population, a great opportunity here. @suffolkbirdgroup.bsky.social
6 SOSSwift nest boxes have been donated to a location in #Burgh, Suffolk where there is a colony of Swifts that nest in the roofs. Adding nest boxes where Swifts breed helps boost local populations, becoming a significant colony over time. @suffolkwildlife.bsky.social @suffolkbirdgroup.bsky.social
What a cracking day at Farm & Country Day at Trinity Park with BTO Suffolk! ☀️🦉 Huge thanks to Cheryl, Anne & Wendy for all their help—absolute legends. Brilliant fun with the kids. @learnerbirder.bsky.social @cheryldeeks.bsky.social @suffolkbirdgroup.bsky.social @waveneybirdclub.bsky.social
What a lovely evening with SWT Woodbridge talking all things barn owls 🦉✨ Thanks so much for hosting us—great crowd, great questions, and plenty of owl appreciation. Always a joy sharing the magic of these birds! @dave09.bsky.social @suffolkbirdgroup.bsky.social @suffolkwildlife.bsky.social
Here is a graphic showing the number of locations around Suffolk where Swifts have used at least 1 nest box. The excitement when someone learns that Swifts have found one of their nest boxes is thrilling, it has often taken some time. @suffolkbirdgroup.bsky.social @suffolkwildlife.bsky.social
Save Our Suffolk Swifts have a talk this coming Saturday in #Waldringfield, flyer below. We will discuss Swifts’ plight, why they need our help and how easy it is to do so. We will drill into these numbers too. #Swift conservation works! @suffolkbirdgroup.bsky.social @suffolkwildlife.bsky.social
An interesting BBC Swift article here. @suffolkbirdgroup.bsky.social @suffolkwildlife.bsky.social www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Here is a graphic showing the uptake of #Swift boxes by Swifts in #Suffolk over the years. It is quicker when either adding nest spaces to where Swifts breed and where they have just been blocked out from. Fitting boxes elsewhere & playing their calls works too, but takes time.
Headed to Giffords Flash early afternoon y’day to follow up Adam Gretton’s excellent find of Lesser Scaup. Great to confirm there was indeed a pair. Perhaps the same birds which spent 6 days there in Apr 2024? Stills from video; the scope views were actually pretty good! #suffolkbirding #ukbirding
Many Scottish Greenshank will have left English estuaries now, soon to be replaced by a pulse of passage birds heading further north.

Zitting Cisticola at Walberswick showed 6 times in 70 minutes this morning viewing from beach; please do not walk out into marsh along raised bank (like this person), there is no guarantee you will see it (like this person)... #ukbirding #suffolkbirding
Another boot load of Swift nest boxes for Suffolk, one of these is the 900th JT has made for SOSSwifts. These are destined for Somersham, Ipswich and Melton. #SuffolkBirding @suffolkwildlife.bsky.social @suffolkbirdgroup.bsky.social
Out scouting new spots for barn owl boxes today—what a cracking day! Met some brilliant, enthusiastic people and found some lovely sites. With luck, a few barn owls will soon be moving into their new homes… prime vole-view properties. 🦉 @suffolkbirdgroup.bsky.social
Time to call a halt on a paint of a juv Roughleg boinging up and down on thin thorn branch before I am tempted to tinker about with it. I miss these chaps more than any other mild winter no-show I can think of. #BirdArt
3 Swift nest boxes have been donated to a location in Nayland where 2 boxes were used in 2025. Adding nest boxes to where they breed is an easy way to boost their population. Bonus latest edition of the Suffolk Bird Group quarterly Harrier magazine to read this evening @suffolkbirdgroup.bsky.social
Save Our #Suffolk Swifts have donated 6 Swift boxes to The Plough & Sail pub in Snape. Swifts nest already under the roof tiles in this area, their progeny will spread into this nest space over time boosting their local population. @suffolkbirdgroup.bsky.social @suffolkwildlife.bsky.social
A lovely afternoon with the Melton WI talking all things barn owls and the work of BOSS. A brilliant audience, great questions… and of course the all-important WI cake selection! Thanks to @dave09.bsky.social for helping with the talk 🦉

Two more shots of the Hooded Crow that was present at the crow pre-roost on Link's Hill car park, Lowestoft. The crows are fed here most mornings so there's a very good chance it'll be there first thing before they disperse #SuffolkBirding
#patch delivery of 4 Spotted Flycatcher boxes yesterday will get them up this week around the site. Many thanks @limeypomme.bsky.social and @suffolkbirdgroup.bsky.social
We have a change in venue for next Saturday’s Save Our Swifts talk, the halls renovations aren’t finishing as swiftly as hoped for. We will be along the road at the Methodist Chapel now @suffolkbirdgroup.bsky.social @suffolkwildlife.bsky.social
Our beloved Barn Owl are gearing up for spring.
Pairs are bonding, and yes… they’re giving our recently installed boxes the once-over (no pressure, lads). Males are out hunting to impress. Romance, owl-style 🦉
We’re keeping everything crossed for a good year ahead.

Save Our Suffolk Swifts have this talk Saturday week in Peasenhall. Learn about Swifts, their plight and how easy it is to help them. There has been amazing Swift conservation at this venue, nest sites protected and many Swift boxes added. @suffolkwildlife.bsky.social @suffolkbirdgroup.bsky.social
Woodlark singing in west Suffolk early this morning. Also Crossbill, Siskins, Redpoll, Nuthatch, Treecreeper and Mistle Thrush all added to the chorus

Ventured into west Suffolk early morning: singing Woodlarks were up with the larks. Also Crossbills, Redpoll sp. and Siskins.
An embarrassingly dreadful shot of one of a group of Tree Sparrows. The bird itself was quite sharp

Great to see these 12 Swift boxes up on Langer Primary School in Felixstowe, they will be switching on the 240V call system early May to attract in the non-breeding Swifts looking for a future place to nest. We have more Sets to donate @suffolkbirdgroup.bsky.social @suffolkwildlife.bsky.social
