Nice to get the first 3 SEDGE WARBLERS of the year along the River Stour at Long Melford this morning. Nearby, 8 HOUSE MARTINS, 5 SWALLOWS and a single SAND MARTIN over adjacent fields and 2 CETTI'S WARBLERS heard singing. #suffolkbirding
A #Swift Community Set of 10 nest boxes and a 240V call system has been donated to Easton Primary School near Woodbridge, Suffolk. The Swift boxes were made by the Street Forge Workshop in Eye and kindly donated to the project by a donor. #SuffolkBirding @suffolkbirdgroup.bsky.social
A few more shots of the nest-building Treecreepers at RSPB Minsmere! #Birding #UKBirding #UKWildlife #Treecreeper #WildlifePhotography #SuffolkBirding
Nice to bump into a few friendly faces when enjoying some recently arrived east Suffolk nightingales. #Suffolkbirding
Drake Garganey
Drake and female Garganey
Pair of Garganey showing really well at RSPB Lakenheath @davidjcopeland.bsky.social #suffolkbirding #ukbirding
Walk over Walberswick Common and then to the NNR produced Woodlark, Yellowhammer, Marsh Tit, Sedge Warbler, Bearded Reedling, 6-7 Marsh Harriers and more. Brilliant. #SuffolkBirding
A Goldcrest perched facing front on on a small branch. It has tilted its head forwards showing off its yellow crown stripe flanked with two black crown stripes.
Can't remember the last time a Goldcrest perched nicely for the camera. I'll take it! #UKBirding #SuffolkBirding
Headed up the coast with @joshuapeverley.bsky.social for what proved to be a wonderfully uplifting day. It’s always special hearing the first Nightingale of the year, today with someone who hadn’t heard one before. Overall we tallied exactly 100 species, mainly at Westleton/Minsmere. #suffolkbirding
Update. I managed to read the ring, and have discovered that the bird was ringed by @btobirds.bsky.social Suffolk rep Mick Wright at Melton, 17 km away, in 2024, Incredibly it is the 7th ringed Reed Bunting in my suburban Ipswich garden since 2021 (five Suffolk, singles Essex & Kent) #suffolkbirding
First Wheatear of the year at Shingle Street this morning, also Willow Warbler, 4 Sedge Warbler and 2 Raven noted. #SuffolkBirding
Second helpings of the fantastic nest building Treecreepers at Minsmere. 14 Adders, 2 Grass Snakes, and several Common Lizards made for a good reptile day too. #SuffolkBirding
Lovely to watch a pair of Treecreepers nest building at Minsmere this afternoon. Such a characterful bird and a joy to watch. #SuffolkBirding
Jay recorded on the BTO Birds in Greenspaces survey
Did my second survey this morning - the local park alive with birds with several Chiffchaffs, Blackcaps, Song Thrushes and Stock Doves among the 25 species counted in total. Great views of this smart Jay #SuffolkBirding
Great to see several Sandwich Terns back at Minsmere yesterday. Lots of strutting going on so hopefully they will stay and breed. #SuffolkBirding
Female Linnet.
Sandwich Terns, Mediterranean Gulls, Common Tern, and a Mallard.
Male European Adder.
Nest-building Eurasian Treecreeper.
My first visit of the year to RSPB Minsmere! Pair of Garganey, Bitterns, Med Gulls, Sandwich Terns, an early Common Tern, Sedge Warblers, nest-building Treecreepers, Grass Snake, and 13 Adders! #UKBirding #SuffolkBirding #Birding
Working in the garden this afternoon when 4 groups of Med Gulls went over totalling 19 birds, including a second summer. A great garden tick! #SuffolkBirding
Pleasant few hours on patch this morning, once again around Falkenham Creek. Highlights were my first Sedge Warbler of the year and a flyover Raven. Latter being my first on patch for nearly 3 years #SuffolkBirding
Headed to Giffords Flash early afternoon y’day to follow up Adam Gretton’s excellent find of Lesser Scaup. Great to confirm there was indeed a pair. Perhaps the same birds which spent 6 days there in Apr 2024? Stills from video; the scope views were actually pretty good! #suffolkbirding #ukbirding
Reed Buntings have visited my garden in 12 of the past 13 years. I feared I might draw a blank in 2026, but two males have just appeared! The only other year with a first visit as late as April was 2019. One is ringed, so I hope it returns for me to try and read the ring #suffolkbirding
Bittern, Sandwich Tern, Mediterranean Gull and Stone Curlew from Monday’s @naturetrek.bsky.social day at Minsmere. We also saw Woodlark, Marsh Harrier, Avocet, Snipe and a black Adder! See www.naturetrek.co.uk/about-us/tou... for details of more Suffolk day walks #suffolkbirding #ukbirding
My @naturetrek.bsky.social group at Minsmere on Monday had a terrific day, and it ended with us watching this Bittern out in the open for fully twenty minutes! Places still available on several Suffolk day walks this spring, see www.naturetrek.co.uk/about-us/tou... #suffolkbirding #ukbirding
Brief walk after work along the beach at the patch. A couple of smart Wheatear were my reward. First of the year for me #SuffolkBirding

A great day guiding in The Brecks yesterday where RED CROSSBILLS seemed to be everywhere including some lovely marked juveniles. #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #suffolkbirding #birds #birding @britishnatureguide.bsky.social
Spent a few hours early morning out on patch, focusing around Falkenham Creek. 4 Pochard were an overdue patch tick. Always assumed I'd get them on a seawatch rather than swimming around in a dyke. 70+ Black-tailed Godwit were beginning to look really smart #SuffolkBirding
Black-tailed Godwit (and straggler Redshank)
Black-tailed Godwit (and straggler Redshank) on the estuary this evening. Absolute stunners...
