Projection of post-drought recovery of intact Amazonian rainforests after the 2023โ2024 droughts. (A) Time series of annual median recovery projections after the 2023โ2024 droughts. The error bars represent the medians of the lower and upper bounds of the 95% confidence intervals across all pixels. (B) Spatial pattern of recovery at 7th year after the 2023โ2024 droughts.
The Amazon rainforest was hit with two severe droughts during 2023โ2024. Models suggest that just over half the forest will not recover within seven years, which is the maximum time between droughts in recent decades. In PNAS: https://ow.ly/BKQ150YySOw

Really proud of @jysuarezibarra.bsky.social for his upcoming #MSCA research position with us @climatecerege.bsky.social. Not only a really exciting project to help us find out more about the climate system, but also an excellent career step for a superb young researcher.
In the latest @exoceanlab.bsky.social interview, Jaime shares how his project eCOโ-MorpH uses planktonic foraminifera to reconstruct past COโ and inform climate models.

Great idea. We should rescue all the papers and data. Universities should provide a place to publish them so they are accessible to anyone. ๐

Morphological change.
Habitat shifts.
Speciation.
We need to track it all if we want robust boundary conditions for modeling past climates.
My project (eCO2-MorpH) integrates morphometrics, AI and geochemistry to refine Neogene COโ reconstructions.
Planktonic foraminifera record seawater chemistry (ฮดยนยนB โ pH โ atmospheric COโ).
But evolution complicates the signal.
Four days later, I think I can finally process this:
Iโve been awarded a Marie Skลodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (#MSCA -PF 2025).
