A white and dark brown mottled hawk with fluffy feathered 'pants' takes off from a bare patch of dry grass with a field of snow in the background.

Rough-legged hawks are named for their fluffy 'pants' that contrast with the more bare-legged hawks that breed further south. I lucked into a few of them on my drive into town this morning. #birds 🌿
