We ran a #TenMinMerlin while taking a walk along the patches of woods that wind through our neighborhood in central Illinois. First Baltimore Oriole of the spring! The White-throated Sparrows and Pine Siskins are probably still on their way north. 😊
It must be the imps that play around inside the computers. Tripped over a wire or something.

Making their own electricity isn't the biggest issue here. Solar panels and wind generators will do it. The problem is tapping into the regional water supply for their required cooling water. This can seriously affect the water table and hence the drinking water supply of communities in the area.

Yes. I found a Rhodotus once, many years ago in central Illinois. Just one, only that one time. It is still among the most beautiful mushrooms I have ever seen. I'm glad I had the camera with me that day. I'd love to find more of 'em. 😀

One day Alfred landed on the feeder... while I was filling it! 😊 Then he came back almost every day for 5 years, happily taking peanuts and seeds from our hands. If we weren't outside he'd walk back and forth on the window sill to get our attention. Best outdoor pet I ever had. 😁

Thanks for the info. In central Illinois our winter-resident White-throated Sparrows are very common, but they've probably all gone north by now. Merlin hears some straggling migrators every couple days. That'll end soon. 😊

We saw this one in central Illinois in June of '17. It's the only Oregon-ish Junco I've ever seen. I found it quite unusual, so we reported it to Audubon and/or Cornell.

Good bunch, mostly within our expectations. Those Eurasian Tree Sparrows seem to be spreading. I hear them every so often on the west edge of town, Pottstown area. I've only actually seen them down at Emiquon, but they're here.
