Championship clubs reject bringing in VAR next season Championship clubs have turned down the chance to introduce a challenge system of VAR for the 2026-27 season.

Good on the Championship 👏🏼 Universally hated by fans, VAR, or more how it’s implemented by PGMO, has been a disaster in the Premier League. And it’s only going to get worse.

You watched "The Hunger Games" and sided with the resistance.

You watched "Star Wars" and sided with the resistance.

You watched "The Matrix" and sided with the resistance.

But in real life they expect you to side with the Evil Empire, the billionaires.

People have short memories. Starmer is an utter joke and failure and done nothing to counter crippling 14 yrs of Tory austerity. But he’s nowhere near as bad as Truss (an utter incompetent who was an economic disaster) or Johnson who was just a downright liar and corrupt (and should be in jail).

England wildlife watchdog ‘has stopped designating special sites for protection’ Exclusive: Report finds Natural England has created no new SSSIs, which protect areas from development, since 2023

The chief executive of @wildjustice.bsky.social
said: “While #NaturalEngland dithers and ‘reviews processes’, irreplaceable wildlife sites are being trashed, damaged, and even built over. That is not a technical failure, it’s a dereliction of duty.”

Experts call for restrictions on pet flea treatments that harm UK songbirds Chemicals known to affect brains of common garden birds, and to kill unborn chicks, found in most feather samples Conservationists have called for restrictions on pet flea treatments after research found songbird feathers widely contaminated with substances that can damage the birds’ brains and kill unborn chicks. Almost every feather sample tested from five common species of UK garden birds contained either permethrin, imidacloprid or fipronil – all insecticides that are banned for agricultural use but still common in pet tick and flea treatments. Here in Orkney they are known as Whaups because of their ‘whaup, whaup, whaup’ call which they give far more regularly than their ‘curlee’ call.

Keir Starmer is a man without any integrity.

He throws other people under buses for no other reason than to save his own skin.

He's not fit to be prime minister - and those who spent years presenting him as a decent man need to have a hard look at themselves.

Almost everything we argue about is a substitute for the thing we should be arguing about: the immense wealth & power of an oligarchic class, which captures governments, ruins lives and wrecks the living planet.
This class redirects our rage at scapegoats. To resist its lies is to resist its power.

I’ve only done the orbs with warblers, but I’ve done variations on the blocks with other birds.

When the wind gets up to this extent the stabilised scope simply allows me to continue birding long after I’d have ditched a normal scope.

Wind got up again (surprise 🙄) and the best I could manage today was this 2CY Glaucous Gull. With the wind being what it was it was another real test for the new Swaro AT Balance 65 scope. Distance c.500m. 45x on scope. 5x on iPhone. Start of clip is IS off. #WestrayBirding #BirdingGear

BTO data show a huge decline in Yellow Wagtails. We’ve certainly noticed this in spring passage in East Norfolk over the last 20+ years. It’s almost non-existent now.

This is the reality.

This Monks Wood #rewilding (natural colonisation) plot is 30 years old this year. It's taken that long for this single Bluebell to migrate 20m from adjacent ancient woodland to colonise the plot. But now it's here, joining the growing trees & shrubs: future ancient woodland in the making.

Whatever happens to him I will never forgive Starmer for squandering a unique opportunity to reinvent this country for the better. With that majority he could have done anything and chose instead to do nothing except take gifts, appoint appalling people, grovel to Trump and appease the far right.

Male Merlin, Westray, Orkney Isles, 19 April 2026

It’s been a two Merlin day for me here in Westray. A flash-by female this afternoon, then this evening, this male flushed from a stab as I was pulling away from the house and he kindly went a sat in the field next to me 🙂 Always have your camera ready to roll! #WestrayBirding

I can relate to this. You end up in a situation where there’s nothing you can discuss with them other than the weather, and even that potentially triggers them into saying climate change is a hoax.

A windy and squally day came good in the end with this first Short-eared Owl of my #PWC2026 year. It’s an odd species here with the past five years varying from two breeding pairs (very unusual) to just a handful of records in a year. I wonder what this year holds? #WestrayBirding

Few people were talking about Curlew on this day ten years ago, when Mary Colwell set off on a 500-mile walk to chart the decline of this iconic species.
She wrote 'Curlew Moon':

And set up @curlewaction.bsky.social charity
A Curlew hero!
