1. Steve Jobs realized that "People hate their phones". Apple invented a better one, made bank, & changed the world.
Academics hate their scientific publishers. Bluesky invented a better publishing platform, & could bank some of the ~$20B/year sci pub revenue, changing science 🧪 @toni.bsky.team 🧵

Excellent talk about the successes & failures of migrating an academic community to Bluesky, with some recos at the end.
🧵 On social media, we feel trapped in “filter bubbles” and “echo chambers.” Often, we see this as a problem with the algorithm. Our new essay argues the problem is the feed interface itself: it constrains our movement—all we can do is scroll. We lay out an alternative vision:
Super cool @atproto.science project!
Would be neat if a bunch of researchers ran these on their X feeds
Annoucing Semble Connections: A new way to organize, curate and discover content in the open social web 💥
Thanks to @stream.place for the recordings, to @byarielm.fyi @iame.li for organizing our content and to @brookie.blog for the Youtube conversion!
Want to see the #ATScience talk recordings? We're collecting them here! (most are there, still working on a few)
#ATScience - Semble for research
March updates!
@atproto.science and AtmosphereConf, @ronentk.me joined the BiTS accelerator, new Semble features like faceted following and faster card saving, plus exciting community contributions and cross-app integrations with @chive.pub and @skyreader.app
Happy Spring 🌻
This exciting collaboration between started at #ATScience !
I got way too inspired yesterday at #atscience and I changed my flight so that I actually get to catch part of the main conference. I’ll be around #atmosphereconf today and looking to chat with people!
Back from a wonderful week in Vancouver! We're proud to have been co-organizers of #ATScience & first major sponsors for #AtmosphereConf ! We're excited to continue contributing to the growth of this wonderful ecosystem 🌱
Re-upping @bmann.ca 's thanks slide here and adding the @atproto.science crew
What a fantastic day we had at #ATScience last week!
More detailed writeup coming soon, for now a big thank you to everyone who made the day possible and to the ATScience organizing team 👏

Shout out to #ATScience for building a strong community of interest on atproto 🚀
Positive-sum > zero-sum Sharing data makes everyone's models better- including yours. This is how a 10-person org competes with a 10,000-person org: the network is the force multiplier.
atdata Open framework for scientific datasets on atproto Entries Dataset metadata & storage locations, published as atproto records on your PDS Schemas Machine-readable type definitions - what's in the data, how to use it Lenses View data across any compatible schema, not just the one it was published with

Brilliant stuff from @maxine.science on Building decentralized AI on atproto: "the network is the force multiplier".
Not part of the #atscience day, but deserves the hashtag. Hope @emily.space is watching this.
Barely 24 hrs since @row1.ca 's keynote at #ATScience 😅
The ecosystem is cooking 🔥

The updated schedule for today is on atscience.leaflet.pub — we’re working to get the atmosphereconf.org updated too. Will update here when that’s done.

oxa.dev looking really cool #ATScience
🧪 @row1.ca shows off the power of what this modular approach to science can look like, by creating papers that are more interconnected.

Excited to talk about modular science, Open Exchange Architecture, @curvenote.com and @continuous.foundation tomorrow.
Will be a fun day learning all that is going on in this space.

, open protocols need "not just the technical architecture that brings shared resources into being," but also new forms of governance that can help ensure they serve the communities that depend on them rather than the actors best positioned to capture them." Some questions we'll be asking
