Speaking as a librarian and former preschool teacher, most kids will just be happy to have a grown-up who expresses interest in the things they like too ☺️ especially if they’re used to being in a household that doesn’t exactly make space for them.
I think it’s awesome that you’re volunteering! When I was younger, having adults around who were simply comfortable talking about queer topics or just being around other queer people (whether they were LGBTQ+ or not) made a huge difference in how I decided to be authentically me. 🥰

What public discord channels do you find to be the most useful for Kidlit?
Even though I have a lot of…feelings…about Instagram, I still find it useful for learning about new events or festivals happening in my local area. I definitely post less on it than I used to, but I find it hard to give up as a resource for disseminating information online (at least right now)

this is going around as people finger wag about optics and peaceful protests
and i just want to note that the cop here - john pike - received retirement, 8mos of suspended leave pay, and $38k for the pain and suffering of macing kids
the students received $6k-30k, most at the lower end
As a Davis Alumni, what’s even more frustrating is that the university and Katehi (Chancellor at the time) actually spent $175,000 for an outside company to try and erase any negative PR about the incident
