New paper from the Stern and Gronenborn labs on structure and evolution of aphid bicycle effector proteins.
We show how alphafold can generate accurate predictions for these rapidly evolving proteins and that these proteins are diverse in every possible way.

Hiring Alert: My lab(www.labofpie.org) is looking for BS/MS-level research assistants to study fungal-bacterial competition. Come join us if you are interested! ipmb.sinica.edu.tw/en/recruitme...
Our story on the evolution of colistin resistance is just out on @plosbiology.org (journals.plos.org/plosbiology/... Evolution doesn’t happen in isolation. We show that competing fungi can rewire the evolutionary trajectory of colistin resistance in P. aeruginosa. Great teamwork with the Ernst lab
Another announcement! 📣 Our work on hybrid incompatibility in cohesin protection in 🐭oocytes is published!! Congrats Warif El Yakoubi and Eddie Pan!!🎉 We found hybrids with cohesion errors in two distinct genus.

Another selfish element in the best worm!
Hello World! It took a minute, but much improved version (thank you peer review) of Joris paper is out

Check out this new Levine-Lampson collaboration, led by the talented Hyuk-Joon Jeon.
We explored the consequences of inheriting long telomeres from dad and short telomeres from mom. Or the reciprocal. Turns out, parent-of-origin matters (in mice, at least).

Exciting news! I am launching the Lab of Polymicrobial Interaction & Evolution at IPMB at Academia Sinica (ipmb.sinica.edu.tw/en)! 🎉Our brand-new website is live: (www.labofpie.org). Check the lab of PIE out!!🥧🎈
I’m thrilled to announce the launch of the Evolution of Chromosomes and Genomes (ECG) Lab at the Institute of Molecular Biology, Academia Sinica, Taiwan. Our lab website is now live—come check it out! sites.google.com/view/ecg-lab...
Absolutely stoked to be part of the JCC community! Let’s do some awesome science together!
Thank you so much, Tamanash!!
Thank you Jesse! 🙌🏽
Thank you! …someone should get on that pha-1 nonsense!!
Thank you, Eric!
9 minutes. Hah. That's 8 mins too late in the worm community.
Thankful the TA community is not as toxic as the genes we study 🙏 thank you Sonya!
@lewsiferase.bsky.social fighting the good fight to put animal toxin-antidote elements on the map! Quite jazzed to see this story published. Tag yourself, I am the transient blob #teamTAs
Thank you Ahna! 🪱
Thank you, Matt 🙏 and congrats on your new preprint! Looking forward to diving into it!
Beautiful work showing how PEEL-1 gets away with murder
Congrats @lewsiferase.bsky.social et al!
Haha, thank you Andy!
Selected frames of a live-cell imaging time-course experiment. A single cell is shown, co-expressing PEEL-1::eGFP and PMPL-1::mCherry. The nucleus is labeled (“N”). t = 0 is 16 hrs after transfection. Acute swelling can be seen (t = 2 hr 30 min), followed by a transient blob or protrusion (arrow) jetted out by the cell (t = 4 hr 15 min) and later reabsorbed (dotted arrow) (t = 4 hr 20 min). Scale bar = 10 µm.
#Celegans peel-1/zeel-1 is one of the best-characterized animal #toxin-antidote systems, but how does it work? @lewsiferase.bsky.social &co show that PEEL-1 co-opts the PMPL-1 to exert toxicity by creating a novel #IonChannel that leads to cell swelling @plosbiology.org 🧪 plos.io/3HfH8LN
Sometimes a paper stops you in your tracks.
New work from Loppin’s group found that histone eviction during sperm development ensures that paternal chromosomes aren’t mistaken for maternal chromosomes in the Drosophila embryo.
