Huge congrats to Mar, who led this study published in @ecography.bsky.social!

Nymphalidae butterfly diversity in the Atlantic Forest was shaped by repeated dispersal, over millions of years, from Amazonia and the Andes, rather than by high in situ diversification
Brooke Zanco and co-authors found flies fed low cholesterol diets have greater levels of gut permeability and epithelial cell disorganisation than those fed high cholesterol diets. Lifespan was maximised on a high cholesterol diet www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Female Catonephele acontius perched on my hand in the Peruvian forest
I'm looking forward to sharing how this project has matured into genomic and transcriptomic work in the next few months, with exciting results to come!
and (2) that maximum temperature was the principal driver of distinct seasonal responses in two Catonephele species, suggesting diapause evolution combines cue conservation with species-specific divergence of trait plasticity
We combined phenotypic and climatic data, with two key findings:
(1) that some species diapause while others don’t, indicating that diapause has evolved many times during butterfly diversification
We tested seasonal reproductive dynamics across the Nymphalids in the seasonally dry tropical forests of Peru using long-term collections to perform *lots* of dissections across nine species
Very excited to share that my first first-author pre-print is out today! Many thanks go out to all of our collaborators, especially those who helped with the fieldwork in Peru - it really wouldn't have been possible without you! 🦋
🚨 New preprint alert 🚨 I’m excited to share our study presenting a non-invasive method for sexing sea turtle hatchlings via DNA methylation - the culmination of many years of work! Huge thanks to our fantastic co-authors, whose dedication made this possible

Excited to visit Lille France for @popgroup2026.bsky.social ! Looking forward to present about butterfly wing colour polymorphism on Thursday at 11.30am in Salle D 🦋
Are you excited about pangenomics? If so, join us in Edinburgh on 8-9th June to discuss the latest methods & insights from using these approaches across biodiversity! More details here:

Organised together with @henrylnorth.bsky.social & @joanameier.bsky.social!
It continues to be a pleasure to be involved in this project and I am eager to see what breakthroughs will follow from our work!
Out today, our take on 6-methyladenine #6mA evolution in Eukaryotes @natgenet.nature.com. We asked a simple question, is really DNA 6mA common across the eukaryotes? The answer is "yes" if you're a unicellular eukaryote 🦠, not so if you're multicellular 🐝🌱🍄. www.nature.com/articles/s41... 1/9
In July, our reporter traveled to the Italian Alps and to Barcelona, Spain, to observe researchers capturing moths and butterflies and then sequencing their genomes. It was all part of the most ambitious biology project ever: to sequence every species on Earth.
