Since we are running out of runway here, I would rather just collapse SME4 into the final project. This should give us a bit more time to polish things for the final.

#209townhall @uhis209evenreal.bsky.social Going to be completely real here, I didn't plan to look at SME4 until tmrw or friday. As you would expect with the end of the semester, things start getting messy. Really just doing triage here, trying to get all my tasks done for classes and work.
#hwa7 #listening if the entire premise of this project/class is to do things that are unexpected... IDK. It is hard... really hard for me.
#hwa7 #thirdvoice I would say it is the confusion itself caused by the system that creates contraidctions, yet somehow still parraelles enough for an abstract msg to exist
#hwa7 #surrealism Going beyond the conventional system: like having the audio/visual is match. Scaffolding out an idea taking it beyond what you would considering to be "conventional
#hwa7 #budgetconstraints I think it is intresting that patty would go out to the thrift store, and sometimes the items there would "direct" the story. Sometimes just looking at your options might get the ideas flowing
#hwa7 #budgetconstraints Well, patty showed that we don't need a crazy budget or production team to tell a story like this. Albiet the storytelling method is a bit unconventional, and hard for me to follow. the msg is eventually given across, even if it requires some more verbose explaining
#hwa7 #propsarenotjustprops
Well like in one of my live posts—I think the emoji ballons. it was one of the things that made a little bit of sense to me in the grand scheme of things—esp with my limited understanding of what a soap opera is
#hwa7 this changes things a bit, because it gets confusing—how do you document fiction?
#hwa7 painted dreams is a doc about fiction... I thought this was a doc about soap operas :/
#hwa7 so keeping the video and audio separate is intentional...
But why? This just seems confusing and complicated
#hwa7 Props v. Idea. I See where this comes from—its intresting how sometimes you have an idea and looks for a prop. And sometimes when you are blank, and the prop is the idea
#hwa7 I always wondered the emjoi baloon props—This is the only part that I think I fully understood (the connection with the emotional /reaction aspect)
#hwa7 I will say the definition of soap opera was not the clearest. I still don't fully understand what makes a soap opera a soap opera.
#hwa7 Soap operas don't end?? But what story or documenatry are we telling? I think this goes beyond our traditional story telling (begining, middle, end etc0
#hwa7 makes sense why I don't know what a soap opera is—or even heard of the term. ashley said, that the people now adays don't "live it in the same way now".
#hwa7 I guess this is why it seems like multiple diffrent stories (that don't seem to connect) running all in parallel
#hwa7 so painted dreams is a collection of performance, poetry/creative writing, and TV production... doing it all of once...
#painteddreams Moving on to the interview: hopefully, the interview is not another version of "going in circles" and is more straightforward and to the point. Maybe I can finally understand what the intended msg behind all of this is
#painteddreams looking back—I recall that they had compared soaps to sports. See, I don't understand either... so that is why this entire concept is so alienating to me.
#painteddreams The paradox here is... I know why we do this... but at the same time I ask "what is the point". Why make it so that the viewer/reader, etc., needs to go through mental circles to try and "approximate" your message?
Would it not be better just to say it bluntly, and we all move on??
#painteddreams, but the very nature of this type of expression is what makes it confusing, abstract, and hard to connect the dots of. It is like we are purposely making it more complex, or how I think of it as "over-engineering"
#painteddreams I put this away for a day to let my brain marinate through the thoughts again. I know at a high level what this is supposed to mean. It is an alternative way to tell some story, or message that transcends our traditional form of media/storytelling
#painteddreams comparing these "soaps" to "war movies" is interesting. "straight nuclear family" vs "the whole family unit"
#painteddreams The entire 8 minutes was a prologue? Or why do we begin episoide 2 title so late into the video
#painteddreams if I am understanding correctly, there is some emotional component with soaps... I guess is this what all of the ballons are supposed to represent?
#painteddreams So what precisely is "soaps"... I assume that this is what the documentary is about. I feel like if it is about this, we should have cut to the chase in the first few minutes of the first video with an explicit definition that is not up for interpretation.
#painteddreams noticing for season 2 the mood/vibe of the entire thing shifted despite using the same items (the iron and figures stood out to me)
#painteddreams Taking a brief momenet to reflect and process the portion I watched:
This documentary clearly is saying "one thing", and "preforming another". It does not seem like it should interconnect well... but it clearly does somehow
#painteddreams I've noticed this same title splash multiple times now. Seems liek each time they begin talking about some diffrent topic at hand/switch to another abstract scene this splash shows up
