4 pairs of eyes, 4 hours and one treasure hunt later, the alignment pin resurfaces in the most obscure spot.

The stray alignment pin is superglued into place (why isn’t this the default anyway)

First post here- Hello Bluesky!
Quick science query: These 2D classes are from negative stain of
a FLAG pulldown (HEK cell eluate). Does this look like a real complex or a common contaminant? Would live to hear from anyone who’s worked on similar prep!

I never felt such joy as I have until I temporarily upgraded to COOT 1, realized how terrible it is, and downgraded back to my old friend Coot 0.9. #CryoEM #TeamTomo

EMPIAR-11821 Cryo-EM of human CAK: Microscope comparisons EMPIAR, the Electron Microscopy Public Image Archive centered at EMBL-EBI, is a public resource for raw electron microscopy images related to EMDB, contains micrographs, particle sets and tilt-ser...

The microscope comparison datasets (Glacios vs. Krios, EF vs. no EF) from our high-resolution/high-throughput #cryoEM SBDD workflow project (the one with more than a dozen ligand-bound 2 Å structures of an 85 kDa complex) have been released on EMPIAR:

Was thinking about RELION5's new coordinate system and came to a realization... Was the switch to a centered coordinate system done to make sure that the coordinates of a particle are applicable to reconstructed tomograms of any size? #teamtomo

But what is the resolution cutoff that distinguishes near from close to?

CZII - CryoET Object Identification Find small biological structures in large 3D volumes

For the #ML and #CryoET folks out there:

Are folks on here submitting to the CZII CryoET Object Identification competition: www.kaggle.com/competitions... ?

The leaderboard is really interesting, and the forums are full of insights.

How many of the latest picking models have been submitted?

The underlying theory (in Fourier space) isn't too far away from that of crystallography. Hopefully the #relion tutorial and the #cryoEM video lectures at @mrclmb.bsky.social's YouTube channel will help too. 🤗

I'm going to run an intensive "boot camp" called "Practical Cryo-EM" where we learn how to freeze grids, align microscopes, collect images, and do 3D reconstruction and stuff. January 13-17

Greatly enjoying our ongoing #cryoET adventures. My new favourite way to procrastinate from administrative tasks is to play I spy with @bobcoelingh.bsky.social's recent data set! 👀

Here's an easy one! 👇

Anyone have any publicly available data (or data you want to share with me) that you'd love to see segmented? I find myself in need of some fun data to segment in my free time... #cryoET or #volumeEM!

#TeamTomo What is the most user-friendly template matching software for cryo-ET with samples with rather low complexity? Can't do Warp now without Windows machine.
