Women's Cricket Weekly: Why have trans women been banned from women's club cricket, and could the ban be reversed? Podcast Episode · Wisden Cricket Weekly · 09/05/2025 · 1h 6m

Yesterday I spoke to a trans woman called Suzi James, a cricketer of 20 years, the game wrenched away from her overnight. One of the most affecting interviews I’ve done.

I really love cricket bats and batmaking (not that it would/could do it myself).
This is great from @philwisden.bsky.social on Salix. One of the great batmakers going. Kember is an artist with the willow.

ECB update on cricket's action plan to tackle racism and all forms of discrimination

Edwards is viewed as a one-off. But it’s been put to me that if ECB doesn’t follow their pledge for open recruitment processes, why should Counties when they look to recruit coaches. That’s the trickle down effect. See pt 11 re recruitment all ECB roles: www.ecb.co.uk/news/2463053

Checked out the scorecard just to be sure i'd cocked up the date - and sure enough, August 18 1990, Waqar cleans up Gooch (9), Stephenson (7) and Waugh M (0) in his first spell... Essex win by 283

@philwisden.bsky.social love you got the date of the waqar game wrong. I do same with my first game. Surrey vs Lancs. Sylvester destroyed a good lancs side in the morning as me and my dad ate ham and pickle sandwiches and pork pie. i.imgci.com/link_to_data...

Me: it’s your birthday soon Alf, right?
Him: yeah I’m old
Me: do you know how old I am?
Him: ten thousand?
Me: correct

Pause

Him: are you really ten thousand?
Me: no, I’m 45
Him: that’s mad

It can be very easy to get lost in statistics over the proposed #benefitscuts. No doubt at least 2/3 of the press will now be running opinion pieces about why our “bloated benefits bill” needs cutting and why “workshy” sick people need to be “encouraged” back to work. 🧵
