6/ The article is based on 30+ interviews I conducted in 2021-22 with Armenian women's rights defenders, feminist activists and scholars. It is the 4th and final output from my PhD thesis, which studied the politics of the EU's human rights promotion in the South Caucasus.

5/ Third, by connecting the fight against domestic violence with campaigns against mining, I argue that women's insecurities are sustained by neoliberal and neocolonial agendas that cut across the EU-Russia binary.

4/ Second, I pay attention to how feminist activists expose and challenge gendered power structures in the EU's agenda through complaint, subversion and resistance.

3/ First, I examine the problematic logics behind EU interventions (conditionality and civil society funding) and the tensions they create for activists on the ground amid Russia-inspired anti-gender campaigns, Soviet legacies, and neoliberal hegemony.

2/ Over the past decade, the issue of domestic violence in Armenia became a geopolitical battleground between so-called "European values" and a "Eurasian family" model. This article deconstructs the geopolitical framing of gender struggles in three ways.

Had a packed week at #EUIA25: presented my work on EU (in)security in post-2020 Armenia (coming soon @jcms-eu.bsky.social -stay tuned!) & discussed brilliant papers by @dfuturevub.bsky.social colleagues. We also stood in solidarity with Gaza & against academic complicity in the ongoing genocide.
