Vielä 2023 alussa söin erittäin paljon lihaa, makkaraa, juustoa, rasvaisia ruokia
En itsekään ymmärtänyt miten paljon taustalla vaikuttivat lapsuus- ja nuoruusvuosilta jatkunut epävarmuus ja huono itsetunto, joita paikkasi toimimalla kuten miehiset miehet

Why Helsinki, why not Salo 😂
Jee - kyllä kannatti luopua mm. kotimaisista elokuvista ja laadukkaista sotepalveluista.

Two trials will be repeated endlessly despite always producing the same results:
1) Does UBI work? (yes)
2) Does AI improve productivity? (no)
If you know anyone interested in starting a Master's project working on ammonoid phylogenetics (or the phylogenetics of a mollusc group spanning the OAE2 event in the Late Cretaceous), then ask them to get in touch with me.
The situation is a little tricky, as it would be funded by the remainder…
The AI authorship issue is real. We've caught papers that looked OK but had references to works by the *journal editors* that *do not exist*. Like, don't send us papers citing papers we know we didn't write, right?
Black Vulture, by Paul Crook
And did you know that today is ALSO International Vulture Awareness Day?
Black Vultures are a highly social species that often follows Turkey Vultures to carcasses. In flight, look for a short tail, flat-winged silhouette, and white wingtips.
Do you have a favorite vulture species or vulture fact?
Ink-like digital illustration of an otter-like animal standing on a riverbank. The animal - a giant otter shrew - is coloured, while the background is lineart.
#SciArtSeptember 4 - Riverbank
Many mammals across the world have evolved an otter-like body shape and lifestyle. Perhaps the oddest and one of the most obscure is the West African giant otter shrew (Potamogale velox).
Not an otter, not a shrew, but a distant cousin of elephants!
A dark green katydid with shiny green eyes munching on bright pink phlox blossoms
Katydid in the phlox..the sound of late Summer evenings is the singing of the katydids..they can be very loud, especially in a group where they synchronize their songs and bow their wings for more intense resonance..

On August 11, 2013 Cassini's camera system, the Imaging Science Subsystem, captured a set of images of Saturn and Titan. This is a natural color composite of three images ISS snapped in red, green, and blue filters. Saturn and Titan appear as crescents here because Cassini was almost completely behind the worlds as they faced the Sun. These images were taken on August 11, 2013 and received on Earth August 14, 2013. The camera was pointing toward SATURN at approximately 1,065,949 miles (1,715,478 kilometers) away, and the images were taken using the red, green, and blue filters. 🪽 We are excited to announce an annotated genome assembly for the hoatzin (Opisthocomus hoazin), found in swamps, riparian forests, and mangroves of the Amazon and the Orinoco basins in South America. Special thanks to our collaborator Andrew Crawford! (1/3)
Radar network of Finland showing lots of blue "noise" which are birds. Screenshot from https://ilmu.fmi.fi/realtime.
Plot of migration intensity with the x-axis showing time and y-axis height. The migration starts at 21.00 local time and weakens at 6.00.
There has been strong night-time bird migration in recent nights, for example last night.
The new radar-based tool has revealed that birds can reach heights of almost 4 km (!) over southern Finland.

"Korkeakoulujen T&K-toiminnan vahvistamiseen kohdennetaan yhteensä 30 miljoonaa euroa."
Ja näin muutetaan yliopistoja tuotekehitysosastoiksi.

Voiko joku selittää mulle, miten koulutustasoa nostetaan leikkaamalla korkeakoulujen rahoitusta?

Trying to get a good video of wasps helped me to fear them a little bit less. I realized they really didn't want me to come too close. And every time they flew towards me they actually weren't attacking me, they were flying past me and straight to the direction where their hive supposedly was.
Bright yellow flowers at the edge of a green meadow work puffy clouds in a blue sky. Darker green trees are at the edge of the meadow.
Some more fun fall flowers. If you’re shooting macro on a day like this, one thing you can do is turn yourself into a cloud and lean over the subject to put it in shadow. That gets rid of the hard highlights you get from direct sun.
