Excited that Albert will take part in “Mitochondria Volume 3: Mitochondrial Plasticity in Metabolism and Signalling” this October in Cologne.
Great chance to hear leading researchers in mitochondrial biology!
Free attendance, open registration: mitochondria-volume3.uni-koeln.de

Last Friday, Albert took part in the #STEMTalksMenorca2026, organized by the GDG Menorca, talking about the research we do in the lab.
For once, he was surrounded by engineering students instead of biomed people! And all happened in an amazing spot at the Port of Maó 😍
Mitochondrial-associated epilepsy is often progressive & difficult to control.
Here, Albert Quintana & team uncover how faulty brain wiring drives mitochondrial epilepsy in Leigh syndrome mouse model, proposing ways to stop seizures in otherwise untreatable childhood cases: doi.org/10.1172/JCI1...

🪫 Mitochondrial diseases damage the body's energy production systems.
With #HealthResearch, @quintanalab.bsky.social (@incuab.bsky.social) is investigating whether cells can mistake this damage for a viral attack, which would be aggravating the disease. 👇

Ja podeu sentir la conversa entre el Dr Albert Quintana i l'Eva Jove, a Ràdio Santa Perpètua, parlant de què són les #malaltiesmitocondrials i de com des del @quintanalab.bsky.social intenten trobar una cura.
No us la perdeu!

A few days ago, Albert joined Ràdio Santa Perpètua to talk about the research we’re doing at the lab. If you’re interested in #rarediseases and #mitochondrialdisease and how we work to find a cure, tune in to 107 FM tomorrow at 2 p.m. to hear their fascinating conversation! 📻
Proud to highlight the contribution of Sandra Jurado & María Royo to a new study with @quintanalab.bsky.social, exploring alterations in the excitation/inhibition balance in the external globus pallidus (GPe) linked to mitochondrial-disease-induced epilepsy 👇
A team of researchers led by Dr Albert Quintana has identified the mechanism behind a potentially fatal type of epilepsy, a symptom of #mitochondrialdiseases

We were at the #INcUAB25 last week. Great talks and company!
Marcos, Günter and Armin gave fantastic presentations (Günter won an award!), Irene got Best Poster, and Emma et al. (coordinated by Albert) were recognized for the Featured Article 2024. Congraaats!
New preprints from the lab (3)! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
It’s #Mitoweek, a week to raise awareness for #mitochondrialdisease. Perfect time to launch our new site quintanalab.org :) and show we’re working nonstop to find treatments💚
So busy finding cures, we had to ask AI to generate a pic for the post, with amazing results 😅
Beyond happy to announce that a project led by Albert will be funded with a CaixaResearch Health Call 2025 grant! 🍾🍾🍾
Albert was on TV yesterday, at the final ceremony of La Marató 2019, where researchers presented the results of all the funded projects. With some makeup on, Albert talked about Leigh syndrome and the advancements achieved thanks to La Marató funding 💚
Our beloved Laura Sánchez, former PhD student in our lab, visited us yesterday. It was so great to have her back! A perfect excuse to enjoy a good lunch with the team!
We are not this quintanalab, although super interesting work from our namesake!
Last Friday, we stepped away from the lab for our traditional calçotada—and it couldn’t have been better! It was a great chance to unwind, enjoy some amazing food, and spend quality time together beyond the pipettes and tubes. Looking forward to the next one!
Today is the #RareDiseaseDay
At the Institute, different research groups are dedicated to understanding and treating rare diseases.

A new protocol for microglial analysis has been developed by @quintanalab.bsky.social. Microglial cells are key brain immune cells, adapting their dense, dendrite-like morphology based on inflammatory status. Read our #articledeldia here: bio-protocol.org/en/bpdetail?...

Great visit yesterday from @wakeforest.bsky.social students to our campus, hosted by Dr. @rosernadal.bsky.social They explored our molecular biology, microscopy, and histology facilities and had the chance to visit the Anderolab and the @quintanalab.bsky.social. It was a pleasure to meet them!
Hellohello!👋
We are a research group studying mitochondrial diseases at the @incuab.bsky.social We'll be sharing our latest news here.
Looking forward to connecting! 🚀 #MitochondrialResearch #Neuroscience
