Today is the Winter Solstice. Did you know that after today, the Mi’kmaq do not fish in the rivers? We do this to allow fish to spawn. This lasts until about March or early April when the ice opens up. This is traditional Mi’kmaw ecological knowledge at work within Mi’kma’ki.
