A bit of a rarity here - I was interviewed by the brilliant @katebelgrave.bsky.social for her podcast, talking about the government's calamitous attempts to cut PIP:

"The risks Hackney council is taking with this #disabled boy are terrifying." His paediatric doctor talks to me about council plans to evict this little boy from his council home & how councils must be stopped from putting #autistic kids into temporary housing www.katebelgrave.com/2026/03/inte...
A Homerton paediatric doctor speaks: Council #housing teams actually put #disabled & #autistic kids at grave risk - and why this doctor made a safeguarding referral to stop Hackney council evicting an 8 year old disabled boy from his home whovotedforthis.buzzsprout.com/2414550/epis...
Emails sent by Department for Work and Pensions communications staff reveal how they have grown increasingly frustrated at attempts to hold their bosses to account for years of deaths linked to their treatment of disabled benefit claimants.

The Department for Work and Pensions is now telling disabled people who need support through the Access to Work scheme that it could take 37 weeks to make a decision on their application, senior civil servants have told MPs.

It is abuse, yes. It's pure cruelty. Vile
November’s changes to the Motability car scheme – including tax rises introduced by the government – are already restricting disabled people’s freedom to travel, according to a letter signed by 70 disabled people’s organisations and allies.

My story re: the 8 year old disabled Hackney boy being forced by Hackney council to take public transport to prove he melts down on public transport has been picked up here: www.mylondon.news/news/east-lo...
Hackney council wants proof that a disabled & autistic child melts down on public transport - so they're going to force him onto public transport and watch. And they're STILL trying to evict this boy & his family from their council home. Is this abuse...? www.katebelgrave.com/2026/03/prov...
Bailiffs due to evict this 8 year old #disabled & #autistic boy and his family from their Hackney council home now. This is ridiculous. There's a live safeguarding case because of the risk to the boy. Councils have to stop this sort of aggression.
whovotedforthis.buzzsprout.com/2414550/epis...
People preparing right now to resist Hackney council's #eviction by bailiffs of an 8 year old #disabled child and his family. The council could grant the family a tenancy but decided not to. It's racist and it's sexist. This kind of abuse by bureaucracy has got to stop
Scores of #DWP failings linked to deaths were kept from MPs voting on benefit cuts, secret reports reveal

Reform’s celebrity Labour defection, ladies and gentleman. The notoriously entitled & incompetent Robin Wales, former mayor of Newham
One day before Hackney council evicts a #disabled & #autistic boy and his family from their council home. Council could let the family stay but won't.
It's racist, sexist and an example of why Labour is losing the left. Hope Labour gets a total kicking in May www.katebelgrave.com/2026/03/hack...
Tomorrow #HackneyCouncil evicts an #autistic & #disabled boy & his family from their council home. There is no excuse for this aggression from councils. None. whovotedforthis.buzzsprout.com/2414550/epis... @sheltercharity.bsky.social @johnharris1969.bsky.social @acornunion.bsky.social
Just LOVE it when govt MPs like #LizKendall say they'll always make sure that #disabled people who are "really"disabled are looked after. That is manure. They go after people who are most in need because they're easy targets. whovotedforthis.buzzsprout.com/2414550/epis...
🚨 Welfare Reform Bill First Reading Online Protest
👉 Disability Rebellion will be doing an online protest on all our platforms on 18th June from 12pm onwards to coincide with the first reading of the Welfare Reform Bill.
This week, MPs will vote on whether to decriminalise abortion in England and Wales.
As the police issue guidance to search women’s homes for abortion drugs and seize phones to inspect menstrual tracker apps, I wrote about why reform is more vital now than ever. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
As MPs vote on whether to decriminalise abortion after more than 150 years, here’s this week’s column setting out why it should be a “yes.” www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Ok #lizkendall. Time to get real about benefit cuts. I recently interviewed a #UniversalCredit support worker who said #sick, #disabled & #homeless people should just get it together & model themselves on #ElonMusk. That's the state of #DWP thinking whovotedforthis.buzzsprout.com/2414550/epis...
Here's my latest podcast, inspired by the vile #LizKendall.
We look at political attacks on #disabled people, Kendall's stunning lack of imagination & her claims that benefits are easy to get when they absolutely are not. #benefitcuts #PIP
www.katebelgrave.com/2025/06/the-...
Does Liz Kendall not realise that the job of destroying #disability benefits and #disabled people has already been TOTALLY done?
It is already VERY hard to get #PIP and disability benefits, thanks Liz. How about you try it. www.katebelgrave.com/2025/05/disa... #universalcredit #uklabour

We're at a point where people put all their energies into trying to get social housing rather than trying to get private rentals because they feel they've got a better chance of getting social housing, even if they have to wait 15 years. 15 years is at least a light at the end of the tunnel etc
Interesting article. We very much need to do something more radical - like majorly radical. Starmer needs to find billions via taxing corporates to pay for social housing. I spend life interviewing people in unspeakable housing situations and there's just no other answer
Screenshot of Big Issue article. Revealed: 1.3 million people with cancer, arthritis and more could lose PIP under Labour's benefit cuts. 'Taking money away from disabled people does not mean our needs will go away'. By Chaminda Jayanetti on 17 Apr 2025. Photo of Liz Kendall, secretary of state for work and pensions.
“It is unacceptable that a policy change this big – effectively wiping out the standard category of PIP daily living – is being implemented without consultation. This is not a minor ‘technical’ change'" said Julia Modern of Inclusion London.

“These figures show how absurd it is to exclude the changes to the PIP assessment from the government’s consultation on the green paper proposals,” said Julia Modern of @inclusionlondon.bsky.social. "We are deeply disappointed that Labour is repeating past mistakes"

DAMN Borders. End Barriers! Disability and Migration Justice Conference. 28th June 2025. Collaborative activist conference between the Disability and Migration Network (DAMN) and the DPAC Crip tank. Understanding, resisting and building alternatives to territorial and internal borders that divide us and reduce our lives. Picture of a mural created by Andrew Bolton together with Disabled people seeking asylum. On the left there is a person falling from a building with a police car below. A wheelchair user is chained. A man is holding his head. A small figure is tending a grave. A fence divides these people from people sitting outside a large house. Guards with their fingers in their ears are guarding the fence. The sun is shining on that side. At the top a small row of figures is pulling the fence away.
